Re: FOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!
I have a pack of buckwheat that passed its used-by date a month ago.
I know that this date is usually an advice rather than an absolute 'NO DON'T EAT IT YOU'RE GONNA DIE' date, but I prefer to check with our fmukers cooks: do you think I can use it? I'd like to make galettes :)

I'm going for potentially the last curry of the year tonight. As of Nov 1st I'm on a SERIOUS eating better kick... until the 22nd dec when my friend arrives then it's fish n chips, mince pies and mulled wine a go go!

Re: FOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!
Has anyone made spring rolls? I quite fancy trying to make some. Do you have to use the spring roll wrappers or could you get away with filo pastry? Plus I would prefer to oven cook them rather than deep fry them from a health point of view. I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I'm thinking that they would make a substantial meal if I packed them full of vegetables. Thanks for any ideas.

I always feel bad posting about cake (and JL's offer in particular) on the WW thread, so I'm going to step back into line and comment here instead.
Though all I have to say this time is that JL's carrot cake is revolting and nothing like the real thing; not only far too sweet and covered in gunk, but also with a peculiar, pervasive and none-too-pleasant flavour I can't identify. I don't much like carrot cake anyway as it's so boring and ubiquitous (the modern equivalent of Victoria Sponge, perhaps?), but it was the best of a very poor and limited choice so of course I'm nobly forcing it down. Might have to chance a cheese scone in March, though!

I've applied for a card now so I can join in on the monthly cake fun and I appreciate the carrot cake warning. I normally love it so would've probably gone for that one straight away... Which JL cakes do you recommend?Ms Thrifty wrote:I always feel bad posting about cake (and JL's offer in particular) on the WW thread, so I'm going to step back into line and comment here instead.

Depends so much on personal taste, c_t - and dietary limitations. Plus I am a self-confessed greedy-guts and shun anything weeny or delicate - if it isn't big, I don't bother with it! Perhaps the existing regulars could conduct a poll? Did see an enticing caramel and chocolate concoction in the Kingston branch recently, but hadn't time to stop. Plan however to return to try to track it down at the first opportunity.canadian_turtle wrote:I've applied for a card now so I can join in on the monthly cake fun and I appreciate the carrot cake warning. I've only ever used spring roll wrappers, similarly, I've never oven baked them.Diane65 wrote:Has anyone made spring rolls? I quite fancy trying to make some. Edit: just realised that was from May 2013!
