Need for Speed

Arrived at 6.50pm to an almighty queue and snuck in with PXC and mandmc. There was a mixture of comp winners who had to be name-checked, and SFF ticket holders, who were kept waiting by the damn name checking until someone finally decided to open a parallel queue for comp winners only, but it was still a shambles. Got great seats though and found out it was 3D when we were suddenly handed glasses. There were popchips and water bottles at our seats, plus saw ejwrank and David who I had a lovely chat with. Original flavoured popchips are boring btw, but the sour cream & onion ones were nice.

It took forever to start, by 7.45pm someone finally came on stage and just then a large group snuck in walking our way. I grumbled about the stupid latecomers until I realised they were cast and crew! The director introducted Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper who said a few words, then we thought we might get the film, but oh no, we had to endure at least 3 trailers, one more stupid than the other. Not sure why the Pompeii one got such a laugh.

Now to the film - what can I say. A paper-thin and unoriginal story (I knew what was happening to the cheerful guy from the start, he was just too cheerful which is never a good sign), macho-posturing galore plus all this fast cars nonsense. In which universe should illegal racing in which people die be glorified? These idiots race on normal roads with normal roadusers in their way!

Also, Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper are totally miscast. They should have had their roles the other way round as Dominic Cooper is cute and can't really do badass whereas Aaron Paul just came across as a wanker, and I hated him on sight. What on earth was Michael Keaton doing in this, and as for cutesy, car-loving Imogen Poots, the less said the better. Also, the 3D was a complete and utter waste of everyone's time.

But - Dominic Cooper walked past me. Twice. My life is complete.

Awesome movie! Loved the non cgi amazing car chases and races. The story was a bit meh but it's based on a game. 8/10

P.S. Aaron Paul is a good actor carrying on from where he left off with breaking bad. Looking forward to his future films

Because someone at the back said a bit too loudly "that looks bollocks" and an older, very polite man with a walking stick cheerfully agreed with him rather than disapproved.

I thought it was ridiculously daft but also fantastically shot, mindlessly entertaining fodder.
I just couldn't believe how annoying Michael Keaton was. He was clearly channeling Tim 'The Toolman' Taylor (or Mike Baxter).

The intro by the two stars and the director was a beautiful bonus.
Boy do I regret not taking along my actual camera.

The plot was as predictable as it could possibly get and the acting was cringe inducing, the pop chips where quite disgusting but the bottled water was quite drinkable

I thought the beginning was quite difficult to watch, but once the back story had been established, it got distinctly more watchable. Always 100% predictable, but watchable.

Well Aaron Paul is a guest on his show this week so he had to watch the film to prepare for the interview.

He had Dominic Cooper on the couch last week but did not mention Need For Speed at all.

I was there too last night and I actually enjoyed the experience. I didnt have a clue the stars would be there live as I thought the introduction would be done on screen by the stars like how Liam Neeson did for Taken 2 , so... you can imagine my surprise when they actually walked on !! To see Jesse sorry Aaron was a real highlight of the night ! We were sat right at the back but was still a good view , thought we only got water and not the popchips !

Anyways, the movie, started of really bad, I was very disappointed in Jesse sorry Aaron But once the car races started things got so much better so much so that by the end of it I actually really enjoyed it , there are so many things that were wrong with this movie though but I just ignored ALL that and enjoyed the movie and its real stars that gave a tremendous performance (the cars !)

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable night as a whole

Oh the queue even though we all the way round the corner as we got there for 6.45 was actually very quick moving so it wasn't bad at all

Best part had to be the lift scene. Lol.

Car chases where good. But could have been better I think.
