Re: Divergent
Saw this last night, I quite liked it even though there were some plot holes. I havent read any of the books so knew nothing about it beforehand, but it kept me interested and never once did I want to walk out - 7.5/10 from me.chelle1973 wrote:And in Underworld: Awakening. It was bugging me where I knew Theo James from and it wasnt any of the films mentioned above, I think it must have been in Bedlam.

Re: Divergent
If anything confused anyone in anyway feel free to message your living book right here :) some things were obviously changed from the book but it kept fairly close
I'm still a bit meh about the whole thing, divergent is certainly the most entertaining out the 3 which doesn't give me high hopes for the rest.
The acting was wooden, Theo sort of improved as the film went on and my huge nitpick is the music mainly.
Why are directors/ producers insisting on playing cheesy music at inappropriate times? Mortal instruments did it with their kiss scene(though admittedly the music fit) but for divergent it seemed lazily laid over.
Oh and Ellie Goulding......Ellie goulding EVERYWHERE. is she the dystopian song queen or something? I didn't approve, every other song was hers.
And zedds song for when the dauntless arrive and jump off the train makes them look like circus performers rather than being totally bad-ass.
I just think the whole thing could have been acted out and edited a lot better.
All that being said, I did find it intriguing and entertaining but would only give it a 6 or 7\10!

Re: Divergent
I quite enjoyed this last night in an Edinburgh full of FMUKers and a slightly eclectic bunch of Sun readers, many with giant quantities of food, so I'm sure Vue were delighted with their sales of food last night compared to us old hats who bring our own!
I thought the female lead was a little weak. Didn't get any of the hype about Lenny Kravitz's daughter at all - thought she was really wooden.
Kate Winciette (thanks Stuartboy - that ones for keeps) was good.
I may read the books now - good beach fodder I suspect? Elements of Harry Potter meets the Hunger Games but fairly harmless and generally quite entertaining.

Re: Divergent
I watched the movie without having read any of the series. In my opinion it is a very good teen movie. The casting crew did a great job by choosing the lead actor and actress. Even the mother and daughter look similar.
Re: Divergent
For the most part I enjoyed it
- fair watch but I was also a little irritated by it. Bar 1 or 2, the action/dramatic moments were pretty underwhelming and the lead wasn't quite charismatic enough although I accept that her character seems more green & real for it. The story was a little thin too. On the upside the romance was handled well and didn't suffocate the movie and if there's a sequel it could end up being better than the first because there's a lot they can do with the story now. Not having read the books that's just hopeful speculation though.

Re: Divergent
Divergent is certainly the best of the three, loads of new concepts, action, factions etc etc.
I do think the film followed well and the only nitpick I have is(though I understand why they left it out)
Edward is attacked by Peter before Tris is attacked, he stabs him in the eye and makes him factionless in the process, this then connects to the 2nd book but we never see Edward in the film, neither do we see Uriah who is also critical to the book
Insurgent is a lot of back and forth, and reminds me vividly of the camping section of deathly hallows part 1, i predict it to be an exceptionally boring film unless they alter it greatly, it focuses more on the factionless and the deeper betrayal of jeanine matthews with a huge cliffhanger,
Allegiant is , pah, i refuse to believe it exists. Let me just say that much :/
