Selling house privately

Has anyone had any experience of selling their house privately, ie without using an estate agent?

There seem to be various websites where you can advertise for free and various companies who will get you advertised on places like rightmove, fish4homes, etc for a fee.

Would be interested to hear from anyone who has successfully used any of these websites.

Have never sold a house (well I have as I used to be an estate agent - please don't hold it against me!) so can't say I know!
