I think another point is
[spoiler]Since when has Godzilla been able to breathe electric fire? or whatever the hell it was? (Im assuming it was electrical of some sort otherwise the Muto's wouldnt have needed the whole EMP power to counteract him? that is if they fight all the time(this was never properly explained as godzilla didnt exactly eat them after hed killed them)[/spoiler]

Oh man - after that great Oppenheimer teaser trailer I was so excited for this... but it was just dull. Godzilla isn't even in most of the film and we instead follow a bland soldier about? Awful, awful dialogue too and far too grey and dark - especially with 3D glasses on.

I didn't have high hopes for this.I was correct. Good 3D in the opening half hour and an attempt at a plot narrative. But pretty soon plot gave way to CGI overkill just as I feared it would. Characterization was zero. Dialogue never rose above mundane. The plot unravelled and had more holes in it than a piece of gorgonzola. And the acting....... Aaron Taylor-Johnson displayed the charisma of garden furniture, though less mobile. Calling him wooden is an insult to wood. His character wanders around Japan, Hawaii and San Fransisco, bumping into monsters every step of the way. Apparently he is an 'expert' but demonstrates no expertise at any point. His pained expression evokes comparison with constipation. Other acting on show varies little from this. My partner enjoyed the soundtrack and monster noises; an electric violin gets a credit in the 9 minute list at the end. Plus they pronounce 'Hiroshima' correctly!

I wasn't too impressed with this, Godzilla did'nt have much screen time! The fight scene at the end was good, the 3d was best at the beginning of the film with the little helicpoter. The cinema was farrrr too hot! 5/10 from me. Kids loved it though

[spoiler]Ahh its a radiation blast! I see! Thanks newdot! Although it doesnt explain his need to battle giant monsters then bugger off :s Im gonna take a wild guess and say they were competition for radiation 'food'? Although wouldn't he have attacked nuclear plants etc earlier himself? :S

Oh well, Muto used fly! Its not very effective...

Saw this last night with the usual Glasgow FMUKers but also evilzadi, sister and friend...lovely to meet you.

I enjoyed this, much more than I had expected too.

However, like McG's comment earlier, I initially thought that the Muto was Godzilla and was very disappointed at this point however when the real Godzilla appeared I was glad.

Thought the 3D (after the initial viewing problems were sorted) and the special effects were really good.

A 7.5/10 from me.

Saw and pa*d for this at BFI IMAX in Waterloo in 3D. My thoughts..

The general consensus from critics has been spot on so far. The 3D was TOTALLY pointless and added nothing whatsoever. The CG creatures are some of the best I've ever seen in a film and didn't look out of place.

The human characters seemed to be just 'filler' and were very one dimensional. Bryan Cranston was totally wasted in his role and was criminally underused. Elizabeth Olson's character was basically just there to play the token 'screaming damsel' and her and her son pretty much added nothing to the story. Aaron Taylor-Johnson was wooden and was a poor lead. I didn't really care about him getting back to his wife and kid.

The only emotional and tense scene was the very start involving Bryan Cranston and Juliette Binoche's characters. Ken Watanabe seems to play the same character in each film.

What did I like?

The CG Godzilla and MUTOs looked AMAZING, big credit to the SFX/CG guys who did the effects and creature designs. Some of the disaster/destruction looked breathtaking.

The sound design and soundtrack was superb, I liked the main Godzilla theme and Godzilla's roar sent shivers down my spine each time. This was a joy to see and hear in IMAX. The last 30 minutes of this film are the best. it annoyed me that some action/fight scenes were just shown on TV news reports in the background so the last 30 minutes were what we wanted to see all along.

Almost but not quite sums up this film for me. It really needed a lot more character development and likeable characters. The fight/destruction scenes were good but not enough of them. The technical side of things was superb especially sound design, sfx and soundtrack. Surely an Oscar nomination for sound design/sfx is in the running.

i did enjoy this film, great monster fights specially in 3d. However some of the characters were a little lacking and may be needed developed more. Really didn't like the lead characters acting (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) very dull 6/10

As said by my OH, I was Very happy they pronounced 'Hiroshima' correctly, definitely Japanese influence in this film lol. Best bit for me was the Japanese parents picking up their goth child at the police station, very funny what they said to him. More appreciated by a Japanese audience tho, found it odd they gave back ground characters dialogue at all tho?! Thought the first 3/4 of an hour was the best of the whole film, hated the lead character, terrible acting. Loved his dad tho, shame he never listened to him, kids eh! Wouldn't p*y to see it! but quite glad I have seen it. 7/10 from me.
