Saw this on Sunday and really enjoyed it, sure it wasn't up to the standards set by the original (a 10/10 movie as far as I'm concerned) but it was different enough to make seeing it a worthwhile experience.
It certainly was able to do things effects wise that the original couldn't but there's no getting away from the fact that going for a lower age rating did have a negative impact on many of the action scenes.
Even though I much preferred his performances in things like 'Easy Money' and 'The Killing' I still thought Joel Kinnaman was solid in the central role and the supporting cast, generally speaking, were very decent.
Overall this was as good as I could have hoped that an unnecessary remake of a classic sci-fi flick would be therefore I think it did just enough to get an 8/10 from me...

Re: Robocop (2013)
I was not a fan of the original Robocop on its release - it was too early for me to appreciate satire back then and robotsm, even real ones in the 80s, moved stupidly slow and dumb. But the videos did grow on me later, and eventually I realised that the first movie is a pretty good fun (the 2nd being more of a budget rollercoaster ride) and had a few levels to it too, even if its blatantly made for single teen guys starving for scifi and terminators.
Real robotics have moved forward since those very basic 80s days, these days robots are built to imitate human movements and feelings, and this change shows in this movie, with more physical fluid movements from our hero and also more humanity/range of expressions. More Cop than Robo. Fewer golden catchphrases for our hero this time round too. This time round, Robocop is less a figure of fun than before, now hes mean and controlfreak 24/7 And bare no bones, this Robocop is twice as good in a fight than the old one. But basically the same movie with Tennies budget, CGI and with the ideology a little diluted/less in your face. Plus this time you get a straight fight between Robocop and the EDs, something you always wanted to see in the original. Worth the 25-ish year wait!

Watched via SKY over the weekend. Have to say I preferred the original. Samuel Jackson was good as the cheesy TV show host which was on par with the original cheesy bits. Other than that not enough violence and swear words. 6/10

Re: Robocop (2013)
Watched this on Friday night and have to say I was pleasantly surprised, especially after having read some damning reviews. Whilst I agree that more violence was required to match it to its predecessor it was still an enoyable watch.

Re: Robocop (2013)
Finally got round to watching this after recording it from channel 4 a few weeks back.
Thought Gary Oldman was great amongst the strong support cast. The new black look was cool alongside the other slick robots and cgi technologies all fitting in giving the film a futuristic feel.
Something wasn't quite right through. The latter third was all a bit rushed which was a shame as it was going well. The final showdown was all a bit bland.
Could have been better 7/10
