Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
well having been to the Roehampton showcase of plays this afternoon I am not sure I could recommend them strongly. They aren't generally acted great but that's no the issue, some of the shows are overtly arty, like you'd expect from High school shows. If you like that, you might well enjoy, for instance, Imperium.
What I can recommend strongly are the plays that Kingston university are putting on free this term. Dissocia was awesome, Carnage was great (better than the movie version!) and Almost Maine was suitably wacky- I cant believe they are put on for free, frankly.

Went to last night's performance of Pajama Game at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Great singing, dancing and sets but felt distinctly underwhelmed by the whole experience. There are about a couple of good songs and some nice set pieces but the musical is a second rate period piece and no amount of energy can transform that.

I don't think this is a comp, they are giving away various theatre tickets but sticking it on here just in case -

Some of the above actors are fairly decent.
I'd recommend An Insomniac's Guide to Ambulances if you can bag tickets to that. From memory, it was written in association with paramedics. If you have ever worked in that line of work, volunteered for BRC or St Johns or just know someone else who has, it'll get you. I cried.

I am not familiar with most of the productions, so haven't applied yet; so good to have recommendations. Only want to apply for ones I want to see and can make.

Saw The Bugle Boy at the Leicester Square Theatre tonight, thanks to valda.
I was a little disappointed by this production. The show was a bit bland, no charisma, didn't feel the love Mr and Mrs Miller had for each other, there was no chemistry there. Things picked up a bit in the second half, there were more songs and Chris Smith Five Star Swing Band, was really good throughout though, and got your feet tapping. We meet David Niven in Scotland, and Vera Lynn sings her songs.
It was opening night, so they have things to ironed out still
especially their mikes when speaking, it tended to fade at the beginning
We had the seats fourth row from the front which would normally cost £25 each, the back £20, so we saved £50.
At the end, "Glen Miller" thank us for coming, said that they were collecting for Hope for Heroes for the soldiers that have fallen on bad times, and that there will be buckets at the exit, and to give our loose change, and also that it was pouring with rain, so get our umbrellas out. We got outside and there were no buckets and no rain! Was it meant to be a joke, as we were all hanging around, holding our loose change and umbrellas!
