This is the reason for many multiple posts in the free films topic. The person who posts waits for ages for the system to respond, thinks it hasn't been posted and submits it again.
The only reason I can see for the delay is that the system immediately emails everyone subscribed to the topic before letting the poster know that the posting was successful. As there is around 1000 people subscribed to free films at any given time, it can take some time to email everyone on the list.
My solution for all posters is to open a second tab/window by roller ball clicking on the free films link, which appears at least twice on the page you're trying to submit from. This allows you to see if your post really has appeared successfully without waiting for the system to catch up.
