The Re-write

#1 Post by McG » Tue Oct 07, 2014 9:07 pm

Oh dear . . . this film needs a complete re-write . . . on 2nd thought, it should never have been made and certainly shouldn't have cinema release. I don't think The Re-write would have succeeded as a made for TV movie. I think that gives you some idea of my feelings about this film!
Plot is non-existent, acting poor, no depth to characters . . . .I couldn't have cared less what happened to any of them . . .which is probably just as well, because nothing really happens . . . Yawn! :X
Best part of the evening was the free popcorn using the Sun voucher.
Glad I hadn't pa*d . . . I may even have swapped into another movie if I'd pa*d.

Marks 1/10

I couldn't see a thread for this film but if there is would someone please merge.
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston

Films already booked for:

Hope to get tickets for: Every film if they come to my preferred cinemas

Back from Glasgow. This is a typical Hugh Grant film. An older Hugh Grant. It isn't a classic but is ok for a RomCom. Not much else I can say except wish OH said to go to The Maze Runner 5/10

The story probably slotted together nicely on the page, but I'm sure the irony won't be lost on the writer/director that's its missing that spark or magic or something that just can't be taught.

JK Simmons and Chris Elliot were wasted in paper thin one joke roles and there was little chemistry between the leads, those 'In serious need of a rewrite' headlines will write themselves before release.

If you only see one 'LA hotshot finds himself in small town' comedy don't make it this, dust off your VHS of Doc Hollywood instead. 3/10

Even if you don't p*y for tickets, I'd advise you to give this one a miss! Abysmal! Should have been rewritten.
1.5/10 (and 1.25 of those marks were for the free popcorn)!

Starts slowly, and winds down from there. There are some chuckles, otherwise everything you might expect. Halfway through, it has nowhere left to go.

This is not a movie that adds diversity to the Huge Rant oeuvre. From the first scenes it’s let down by its casual, irritating retro sexism: all the stereotyped female characters (even the feisty one) have ISSUES, and the men are phlegmatic, uxorious and/or regretful. Tiresome.

I actually thought this was quite enjoyable, sure it was light, fluffy and relatively predictable but I liked the characters and I was never bored.

More amusing than laugh out loud funny, it maybe could have benefited from being a bit tighter time wise but it still did enough to get a 7/10 from me...
