MrG cleverly checked his App and saw that we could get a bus on the North Bridge and so we waited patiently for the bus which actually turned up when MrG said (from his App). So we piled on and suel3288 asked the driver whether the bus went to the museum, in which he replied "next stop" - we looked at the next stop on the bridge and legged it there (all of 10 paces) as the bus which originally passed us was still waiting there at the stop, as if it was waiting for us.

Anyway, we jumped on and asked the same question to which the driver replied, it is one stop only, so we said we did not mind as we had a day bus ticket. And sure enough, after one stop was the museum. We were still thinking and complaining why the first bus would not let us on, as it was going the same way.

It was only later it dawned on me and my OH, that it was bad communications between us and the first bus driver! Both drivers were kindly telling us it was one bus stop away, thereby being helpful to save us b*ying a ticket x 5 (as they did not know we had a day pass), but we misinterpreted the first bus driver's "next stop" and thought we had to get the bus from the next stop in front of us! He must be thinking these 'tourists' are really stupid, running after another bus for one stop! We had immediately assumed that we needed to get the bus from the next stop, rather than it was one stop away! :giggle:
That story made me laugh especially when I read you were waiting for the bus at the Bridges and knowing where the museum is. Did you try the trams?

Later on we decided to have afternoon tea at The Elephant House Cafe, as we had not been yet. We waited to be served and suel3288 was behind me waiting to order, after I gave my order. There was two girls serving. One served me and the other one kept overlooking suel3288, missing her and kept serving the people behind her. suel3288 kept telling the serving girl, she had not ordered yet, to no avail, as she kept saying we were together, although we kept saying we are sitting together, but suel3288 had not ordered yet!
That is not good service at all. Think you should complain about it or at least write it on tripadvisor. The Elephant House won't be as popular if they didn't rely on the Harry Potter fame. Suffice to say they been riding high on it even though she didn't write her earlier books there.

Oh I think I worked out why we p*y for our Ghost tour whilst there are free ones. We p*y for entrance into the vaults as Auld Reekie owns them which is why they only take payment halfway through the tours as the first part you could do for free with another company.

Well worked out :) As for the other tours, they are free but I think the tour guides would expect tips, otherwise how on earth would they be earning anything! I am glad we went on the tour we did, the vaults were very atmospheric and enjoyed being terrified of the dark! If we did a free walking tour, given our get as much for free or cheap ethic, the tour guide would have been terribly unfortunate to have got the whole group of us fmukers :D

Whilst at the Camera obscura I took a load of pictures of Edinburgh. I have now created a few panaromas from them. The files are rather big so its links rather than images and don't use a phone.

This is a very easy to use tool and created these images:
http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/res ... ditor.aspx
Its really just a matter of add the images and it does all the lining up and stitching. Best of all its free.

I agree Yinster. It's overrated and generally just full of tourists and it relies on the HP story which isn't strictly correct! You can never get a table, the service is average and the food is ok but overpriced. There are many much lovelier tea shops and cafes in Edinburgh.

The 3rd one is the largest - over 7Mb - so I expect that's the reason, too large to preview. Just download it properly.

Now that I know what that stitching program can do expect bigger pictures in future.
