Danny Collins
Danny Collins rocks! It is incredibly funny and has a whole lot of heart too, this story that is "kind of based on a true story, a little".
Al Pacino plays an ageing rockstar who tries to overhaul his life and connect with his long-lost son when he finds out that John Lennon wrote him a letter he never received 44 years ago, plus tries his charm on more age-appropriate Annette Bening, the manager of the Hilton New Jersey which he graces with his presence for a while, having moved his piano in.
Honestly, I haven't laughed so much in a while, it felt all so believable, and everyone got good lines, from his manager to his gold-digging girlfriend's lover to his son, ADHD granddaughter and perfect daughter-in-law. The show was absolutely stolen by Al Pacino though. I wish I'd had a notebook on me for all the one-liners.
Don't leave too early, the real "Danny Collins" is shown at the end!

Re: Danny Collins
Edinburgh was 99% full tonight and people hit a good film in return.
Well played by everyone, a touching and thoughtful wee film who finally gets back the values and beliefs he had 40 years ago. Touching in oart, funny in others. A nice wee film.

Re: Danny Collins
Edinburgh filled up very quickly this evening - hardly any vacant seats by 6.15pm. A Times screening which is always good - no mobile phone users or late arrivals.
I really enjoyed this film - good music, funny one liners, sad in parts. Well worth a viewing. Anyone who has tickets for tomorrow night -don't miss it. 8/10.

Re: Danny Collins
as above, really enjoyed this and did not want it to end. Agree about the Times screening, mostly seated by 6, no latecomers or mobile phones. Lovely...
Watched at a barely half full Reading Vue, with my 16 year son who also really enjoyed it

Re: Danny Collins
One of my favourite films of the year so far. Funny and heartfelt in equal portions. Pacino hasn't been this funny since Frankie & Johnny, an absolute treat to see him finally have fun in the role. Once again Bobby Cannavale impresses, the guy gets better and better.
It's a wonderful film and one that I will happily watch time and again.

Re: Danny Collins
Seen in a quarter full vue in Swansea. The girl who checked us in recorgnised us from Cardiff screenings and we had a chat which was pleasent. I didn't expect much from the film. Boy, was I wrong! I laughed, I wanted to cry.....I wanted to sing 'Baby Girl". OH thought A| was over acting but I thought that that'a what part needed. Great night out. 8/10
Spotted Zac from TBBT, hope he doesn't type cast.

Re: Danny Collins
The trivia on IMDb is interesting. Apparently, Jeremy Renner was supposed to play the son at one point with Julianne Moore in the Annette Benning role.

Back from Glasgow. This was a feel good film with a perfect ending. Didn't like it as much as everyone else but it was still good especially as it was kinda of original 7/10

Re: Danny Collins
Braehead only about 60% full tonight which is a shame as folk missed a good film. The cast were very good and acting was very believable particularly by the granddaughter! Great to see Al Pacino having fun too! I am intrigued to find out more about the real 'Danny Collins' character and it was good to see the real singer at the end. Many in the audience left and missed this part. The story was good and certainly touched on lots of emotions. Great to get back to free cinema again after 6 weeks and a film worth seeing!

Manchester Printworks was busy from 6.10pm (there was a queue! Not entirely full though). My favourite characters were Mary and Frank. 6/10
