Entourage

#1 Post by scrmedia » Fri May 22, 2015 10:46 am

Just got my two free tickets for the 8th! Literally the biggest Entourage fanboy so I'm chuffed I'm seeing it for free (I will most likely see it a second time and p*y).

Any other Entourage fans on here?

As a massive fan, I loved this. It was everything I wanted from an Entourage film.

Any non-fans see it? What did you think?

Huge fan of the show. Loved the film, just an extended episode really that tied it all up nicely. Plenty of fun throughout. Hundreds of cameos. But really it's all about the boys, and it was pleasing to see them all get their own storyline.

Had absolutely no idea what this was going to be about, and certainly for the first half I felt disadvantaged at not having seen any of the TV series, but when it finally clicked into place as to who and what each character was I kinda started to like it.
I usually hate movies about movie stars and movie masking with a passion - you can just imagine the film crew and director etc filming a movie film crew and director. It all gets a bit like a Russian doll! They do tend to become self indulgent and downright boring. The only exception to this recently has been Argo (and to a lesser extent The Fartist).
I really did struggle initially either the 5 or 6 main characters all bring of similar ages and appearances, and seemly bring interchangeable. Then add in another half dozen attractive ladies with the same qualities... Like I said it does come together if you persevere. Doesn't make me want to tune in every week or b*y the box set etc. though. It was self contained enough for me and entertained.
I liked all the little cameos too, although these often worry me as seeing an actor playing themselves and sending themselves up is a little disturbing. There must have been loads of these cameos that went over my head as not being American I wouldn't have recognised them. Thankfully a lot were "introduced" along he lines of "Hello, Arnie Hammer!" Which I found a little wooden if informative.

Wouldn't mind seeing this again. At least I might now appreciate the first half more.

I went to see this last night, never seen the series. I found it a bit slow at the beginning, but it gave me a chance to get to know the characters and gave a bit of background from the series. I found it very funny in parts and loved all the cameos, but sure I missed some as there were so many. I am sure there were some jokes that went over my head never having seen the series, but overall I enjoyed and would recommend 8/10.

Did anyone else spot Phil Jupitus at the Edinburgh screening?
That aside, the film...never seen or actually even heard of the TV series. Yes, it might have cleared up some of the first bit but I fund get into the swing of it. The cameos were quite funny. Film was fine, but fine us all I eill give it. 6/10 from me.

Enjoyed this plenty and it certainly managed to wipe away that bitter taste of the mediocre final 4 seasons.
None of that soap opera nonsense is on display here - this is pure testorone-charged fun from the word go (albeit occasionally sexist).
However, it is merely an extended TV episode and in all honesty it should have stayed that way.
There's very little here to warrant the jump to the big screen. The ending too feels extremely rushed with a somewhat unsatisfying p*y-off.

For any non-fans, I highly recommend you give the series a go. Especially, if you're a cinephile as it's loaded with movie-industry in-jokes.
And if you're not a movie buff, watch it for the wickedly hilarious banter between Ari and Lloyd. You won't regret it.

I watched the show, found it entertaining enough but wasn't a huge fan. I loathed the film.
In small doses the TV series was acceptable, but stretched to feature length, its flaws (unlikeable characters, rampant misogyny and 'hilarious' homophobia etc), become tiresome, occasionally toxic and harder to justify. Under the guise of satire it could have worked but writer/director Doug Ellin likes these clueless douchbags too much to offer any kind of critique of their behaviour.

It certainly becomes problematic when Piers Morgan has more lines than series regulars Debi Mazar and Constance Zimmer. Yes....you heard that right....Piers f*cking Morgan.

The series suffered in the credibility stakes by expecting us to b*y Adrian Grenier as a bona fide movie star, talented enough to score the lead in a Martin Scorsese film. As if that wasn't laughable enough, the movie not only wants us to believe that Vincent Chase now wants to be a director but that his first movie, Hyde, is a masterpiece. The couple of minutes shown suggest anything but. It may not be a full movie but it is now officially a worse film adaptation of the Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde story than Dr Jekyll & Ms Hyde with Sean Young and Tim Daly.

The rest is made up of an endless parade of pointless celebrity cameos (the Pharrell one is a particular low point).

On the plus side, Haley Joel Osment, though freakishingly weird looking as an adult, is getting really good at playing sleazebags and there's one good bit where Jeremy Piven punches a photo of a kitten. Also just like in the show, Piven invests the occasionally vile lines he has to utter with more commitment than they deserve.

Woeful.

Caught this at the 'European Premiere' at Vue West End this evening. Blue rather than red carpet for a reason that escaped me. Full featured cast and assorted minor celebs in attendance.

Had never seen the TV show, but I thought the mock interviews/documentary voiceover which opens the film did a pretty good job of introducing the characters and the 'story so far' to the uninitiated.

After that it all zips along at an enjoyably quick pace, with each of the 'entourage' having their own little crisis and/or relationship issues to resolve over the course of 100 minutes or so. Often funny, crude at times without resorting to (much) gross out humour, and good chemistry between all the male leads, but a pity that pretty well every female character is there just to be lusted after or shagged senseless or is already pregnant, and in most cases seem to be happy to come back for more of the same abuse and disrespect from the men.

More celebrity cameos than you could shake an awards ceremony at, but I was left wondering whether many of the A listers who pop up at the climax even knew that there images were to be used in this movie.

Overall, despite the misogyny (and gay caricature) on show, an entertaining film which for me fell squarely into the 'better than expected' category.

When I arrived at the Vue Omni in Edinburgh there was a problem as they thought it had been cancelled but it turned out it was a mistake by a member of staff. Felt relived that I hadn't travelled to see it only to be turned away but for me I wish it had as I might have been offered tickets for something worth watching.

Never seen the TV series and wouldn't watch it now I have seen this load of rubbish. Lost count of the number of times the F word was used or Motherf... Not one I would recommend and was glad it wasn't too long. Not many laughs just a few titters from the audience but plenty of titters on screen!!! 3/10 for the celebrity cameos.
