I just wondered is there a reason there never seems to be cinema tickets for Dundee for previews recently? I heard that the Odeon in Dundee maybe closing so thought maybe this may be the reason :-S.

The film distributors decide where they show previews. Often this is based on where films show on release.

Oh no. An odeon closing!
I have a suspicion that Odeon Wester Hailes could be closing. Just a hunch, but it always seems underused, has no screenings after 8pm even on Fridays and Saturdays, and they have all films at £5.00.

Hope not! It's far from a flea pit and very near me. They did close the Odeon at Fort Kinnaird in Edinburgh over 10 years ago - so it does happen - only to completely rebuild it 10 years later. Can Edinburgh really sustain 3 Odeons?

Lots of Odeon have tickets at £5. They're trying to gain customers so they can sell the chain.

Sell the chain?
That in itself sounds ominous. Selling to a competitor such as Vue or Cineworld would likely lead to closures too, no?

Definitely sad faces. :-( :-( :-(

It won't be Cineworld as they had problems after acquiring Picturehouse but I did read an article where Vue was mentioned although they denied any interest.

Everyman has already b*ght up 2 or 3 odeons in London. And Odeon Kensigton recently closed, I think Valda said they're going to build flats on the site.

So is odeon in trouble?
I'm just wondering whether to make more effort to use up their vouchers/ gift cards even if they have long expiry. Just thinking back to the hmv hoo-Haa when they went into administration and stopped accepting gift cards.

Well they've just built a brand new multiplex in Edinburgh six months ago so seems unlikely.

They've been in trouble for years. It's very expensive business, running a cinema. They're cost cutting big time. Lots of jobs have disappeared with staff either losing their jobs or being downgraded.
The reason there are so many vouchers is because they're trying to make the company more appealing to potential buyers.
