Joy

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2446980/

The lady who invented the mop that you can stick the head in the washing machine and sold thousands of them on QVC.
This is a drama but with fun and comedy and sadness all thrown in. I really enjoyed it, although I did find Isabella Rosselini really annoying.

Unlike the trailer thought this was all a bit flat and without purpose, the story would have made a good reverse Christmas Carol but the direction they went just felt a bit lifeless.

The best film about a mop since...

Yeah it was OK, but not great. The cynic in me says that someone is hoping the Jennifer Lawrence/Bradley Cooper/Robert De Niro/David O. Russell combination, will lead to Silver Linings Playbook-esque Oscar success?

6/10 purely for Jennifer. Everyone else in the film was decoration and added nothing to proceedings.

Saw this at a screening at 11am this morning using a voucher. Only 9 of us so perfect - no mobile phones etc.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film possibly because several years ago I was done by someone who stole an idea from me as I was naive in these days!! I made money from it but not as much as they did so I know what it feels like to be shit on!

I did the same as biggins seeing this film at 11.10am using a voucher in Paisley. The audience total was 3 and that included me!
I found the film to be almost a film of 2 halves. The 1st part being the family story which in itself could have been a film and the 2nd half being the story of the design, manufacture & selling incl QVC.
I enjoyed this 2 hour film and was never bored. . .ok it will probably never win any Oscars but a reasonable way to spend 2 hours escaping the world!

I saw this after winning the New Year's eve competition at Picturehouse Central. Boyfriend wasn't impressed at all and I guess I expected a bit more from the buzz that they had about this film.
Nevertheless I would probably give it 6.5 for the family story.

I enjoyed it a lot. I wanted to smack Robert DeNiro and Isobella Rossellino for the way they treated her.
Joy''s amazing determination and strength of character impressed me greatly.
I came home with the urge to b*y some huggable hangars!

I loved this film! JL was just captivating. This film really embraced subtlety so you have to p*y attention or you'll miss a sly remark or little joke. 8/10

Thanks to missgotty saw a pre-DVD release special screening at 20th Century Fox and a Q&A with Jacqueline Gold, CBE, the Ann Summers CEO. A very inspiring lady indeed, paving the way for Joy, which felt like a tribute to strong and independent women.

Although an underdog, against all odds, rags to riches story, Jennifer Lawrence sold me and that magic mop, I want one too! She puts in a very compelling performance showing her character's strength, determination and vulnerability, in an emotional and inspirational story. Shame the supporting cast seems so underused, and the first half sub-plots, script and comedy was all over the place, but went nowhere, and it only got interesting when it centres on Jennifer Lawrence, the magic mop and then the charismatic Bradley Cooper coming on the scene. 7/10

Initially I avoided seeing this film as it didn't seem like the kind of film I would enjoy. However when there was a special DVD release screening at 20 Century Fox I thought I'd better check it out. To be honest I really liked it but mainly due to the true story depicted in the film. It's unbelievable what happened in real life. I kept saying "What! I can't believe they did that"!

It was also interesting hearing at the Q&A how the Jacqueline Summers Gold started up her Ann Summers business and the struggles she went through to break into the market.
