I saw this on a fairly busy Sunday morning at East Dulwich picturehouse.kevinknapman wrote: I'm not going to pretend I still understand everything (something the film suggests is exactly how Wall Street likes it)
Very good film awash with good performances all round, however like most I also was somewhat lost some of what was going on, so I was rather comforted by the above. 7/10

Re: The Big Short
I found this entertaining and a generally quite clear telling of what is a complicated and ultimately pretty bleak story. (clear at the time, hopefully no one asks me to explain it to them
)
The style kept it engaging and the short asides to camera from people like Margot Robbie and Selena Gomez helped at key moments just as we were about to delve even deeper into more acronyms and oblivious, self interested 'white people who can't play golf' 8/10

Re: The Big Short
Went to the Telegraph/SFF/media screening with Q&A with the Director. Thank you mandmc10 for taking me along.
Pre-drinks consisted of all you can drink wines and yummy long cheese sticks and massive bowls of vegetable crisps, which looked very much like pot-pourri in a big vase! Well, I hope it's not as I had some and it tasted very nice!
While we drank and waited to go into the screening, I had a lovely chat to one of the Telegraph's film critics au pair, who gets invites to film screenings obviously. Nice perk!
Even better on a second viewing. Christian Bale is really outstanding and so is Steve Carrell. Noticed the other characters more this time, and how funny Rafe Spall's character is. It does make a boring high finance topic, witty and entertaining. Although the story is tragic how it has affected billions of people. Well acted and utterly engrossing. Have upped my score. 9/10
The Q&A is thoroughly entertaining too with the director, Adam McKay who was joined by Rafe Spall. I really do enjoy watching him in films more and more.

Re: The Big Short
what feels fresh at the beginning gets repetitive after a while and you really do need to be interested in the topic to hang with it all the way through the movie. Bale appears to be on drugs, not sure if this was deliberate... was he trying play someone with Aspergers? his performance is a gross exagg. Anyway its no surprise that these cats were ruining the economy.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
Re: The Big Short
Probably would've enjoyed this film more if I didn't keep having to explain what was going on to my bf. Lesson learnt, only watch action or comedy films with bf.

Re: The Big Short
Watched this last week and having an interest in the markets found this gave a very good explanation to the terminology that was used. I liked the way some of the actors talked to the camera (much like Kevin Spacey from House of Cards).
As for the film very good and up there with Wall street for me so a solid 9/10.

Re: The Big Short
Very interesting story which explains the terms better than Wolf of Wall Street. Intriguing to see how the housing bubble was predicted over ten years ago. Though Christian Bale deserved his nomination but Steve Carrell's performance was a comical revelation.
Re: The Big Short
I saw this film free at the Dalston library. I really enjoyed it. It explained a complicated issue fairly clearly. Definitely one to watch.
