details missing - what is the appropriate action to take

#1 Post by Cartedorlondon » Fri Apr 15, 2016 1:59 pm

Admin kept saying no chat, but sometimes information is missing, so how else to raise this kind of matter?

and even if you did not intend to chat, you ask a question, this is ABSOLUTELY not chatting, but admin is lacking common sense and classified it as chatting.
you can see it is not chatting, so why did you have to be so stern and rude about it?

I know followers on here are not automatically entitled to free tickets, but due to missing info, and then having to wait and come back finding the code is magically appeared, and then back to the site and all the tickets are gone, that is quite disappointing.

Also, users do not have the function to delete their own posting, is that a definite?? or did I miss the delete button, cos i am not looking at the right place?

Oh thank you for telling me I lack common sense. Believe it or not, every post that is not giving us a code or link but asking a question instead is a chat post that uses our email notification quota up.

I am not responsible for people not posting all the information in the first place. This is a bug bear of mine but I try my damnedest to find the missing info once I notice. In fact, I already had noticed and was about to add the info. You can always alert the OP, or the mods of such a fact or you can ask questions on Film Discussion, but what you CANNOT do is ask on Free Films for the reasons that are very clearly stated in the Forum Rules.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18875

But, sure, for your benefit I will make the rules for posting on Free Films even clearer.

"Do not ask about or alert to missing info on Free Films. Questions are chat."

People who can edit a Free Film post, apart from the OP are AYBG, Sydney_Bristow, a_person and myself. I'm usually around the most but even I am allowed a life outside this website.

Wow.
Questions in FF are most certainly chat as questions require answers and they can come thick and fast from many directions. Each and every post in FF generates an alert and wastes the forum's email allowance on something that is a waste of time to 99.9% of the subscriber base.

The best, and should be only, place to ask questions about a FF post is here in film discussion in that particular film's topic, or you could pm the original poster with your question.

Nothing else is acceptable!

NB Users can delete their own posts as long as its the last post in a topic. Once a reply has been made the x button above the quote button vanishes.

May i ask about the details on the email notifications?
what is the cap on its limit? if its a daily limit, is it reset from midnight daily?

Also, i absolutely disagree creating and placing additional question in discussion forum by creating a new threat, because, not everyone read both of threats, and there is no guarantee that original threat starter or anyone else match the two together.

I will PM the threat starter next time as you mentioned.
Maybe the PM button can be made bigger and more obvious, so that it becomes more obvious an option to contact the starter for immediate response. If that is something that can be changed.

Threats all round????? Do you mean threads?

NB the pm button is just above the post reply button and a little to the right.

Also The email allowance is an hourly one. IIRC its 500/hr unless its been changed since I last found out. I know, its a problem for the usually 1500 or so subscribers to FF.
Unnecessary chat on FF is a real headache to everyone. The chat rules are there for very good reasons!

The problem is exarbated on a Friday where a higher proportion of codes seem to come out, so the quota really gets a pounding.

Must admit, I wasn't aware of the email quota allowance despite reading the rules ages ago and perhaps glossing over that point. I just read the multiple warnings not to chat in FF board and that was enough to take heed. Makes even more sense now with this rationale!

It's always exciting to get a new email notification and equally disappointing when it's a false alarm. The admins do a good job of keeping the FF posts updated and relevant to keep any red herrings to a minimum!

It was trial and error before we found out about this limit.

The thread (if you want to read it, I suggest you read backwards from the most recent) is on This Site and is under Not Receiving email alerts.
