Me Before You

#1 Post by mazzaholmes » Tue May 17, 2016 9:25 pm

Have just got back from a screening of 'Me before you'.

What a beautiful film about very difficult subjects. The way the film handled the trauma of an active young man becoming a quadriplegic in a humorous but sensitive way, did not make me feel awkward at all.

I found it was easy to empathise with all the characters, and found myself posing the question 'what would I do and how would I feel' in each of their positions.

The subject of

euthanasia
is another tough one, and I felt that each of the character portrayed their views in such a way that you could understand how each of the felt.

On a lighter note the chemistry between the main characters was great, and the comical dialogue showed how sometimes in the darkest of situations, a bit of humour can ease the pain a little.

So I left this heart-warming film with a big smile on my face, ready to recommend to anyone of all ages.

Me Before You

Arrived first at Glasgow Fort at 17:50. Surprised. However by the time started the screen looked pretty full with people still arriving up to 10 minutes into the film. They missed how the story of why Will had his accident.

Anyhoo the rest of the film I really enjoyed. The film was 110 minutes long but didn't felt that long. There were some good funny lines to relive the subtle deepness of the story. And towards the end there were some tears from other people including OH. Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin were perfect as Will and Lou whilst the rest of the cast were excellent. 8/10

From the moment the film started it was all horribly familiar. I really thought I'd seen this film before, but then it dawned on me that I must have read the book. It seems to be filmed very close to the book. So so predictable. Every sentence, every plot twist, every tear outbreak was foreseeable. Beautifully filmed, but God, so slushy.

6/10

I also had the privilege to be called a bitch tonight by a self-centred, rude brat who was so ill-brought up that she thought loud talking and cussing other people out in a cinema is acceptable behaviour. I almost feel sorry for her.

I wasn't expecting much, this didn't seem up my street, but really enjoyed it. That was mainly due to the 2 leads and the believable relationship between them.

A bit predictable, but not completely so, emotional and also very funny at times. 7/10

I went to the Marie Claire special screening last week with a Q&A with Jojo Moyes at Charlotte Street Hotel, with drinks pre-screening.

I thought it was brilliant, beautiful and heartbreaking. An excellent cast. Very true to the book. 8/10

Let me preface this with I haven't read the book. My opinion is based solely on the film I saw yesterday evening.

Enjoyable, rom-com type movie, with a predictably sad turn in the storyline. I loved the clothes (THOSE SHOES), the cast and the dialogue - very funny and light, in spite of such a heavy subject matter. However it didn't resonate with me as much as I thought it would - I expected to see more of a relationship forming between the two characters.

Tempted to compare this to Love, Rosie as both are based on chick lit, although I preferred Love, Rosie.

Beautifully shot film and loved the 2 main characters in particular. Loved watching how the relationships adjusted as the story progressed. Yes, it's fairly predictable but I didn't expect the ending as I'd met a lady in a restaurant before the film who said she thought there was a second book . . .

Thoroughly enjoyed this rom-com. Felt it was handled in a sensitive way but with humour along the way. Both leads played their parts convincingly and although nearly two hours long it did not seem like it. Definitely recommend. 8/10
