The Girl on the Train

#1 Post by mazzaholmes » Tue Oct 11, 2016 5:24 pm

The trailer for this film was fabulous so I could not wait to see on the big screen.

My friend told me to read the book first as it is set in London, so I did, and therefore I new the plot when I went to the cinema.

Emily Blunt was absolutely fantastic. The way she played a drunk was perfect (not too over-the-top). The flashback she was getting was a great way to illustrate the hazy memory of someone on a drunken bender!

The other characters were all great and although I know who the killer was, I was suspicious of everyone.

I was not bored at all during the film and the thrilling suspense throughout was totally gripping.

I have recommended this film to all and am interested to know how people who have not read the book, enjoy it.

Hadn't read the book so no knowledge of the plot.

Excellent little thriller - nice to see Allison Janney get a serious role for a change.

I've read the book and found it quite boring and predictable to be honest, don't get the hype. I might watch this further down the line but really can't see me being in a rush to go to the cinema to see it. Emily Blunt seems a little too polished to portray Rachel, she is meant to be a complete mess in the book. I'll give it a shot at some point.

How did people find the fact that it was set in New York? Having read the book, I find it hard to imagine that the same air of mystery and claustrophobia can come from stately NY homes, like in the trailer. There's just something about those terraced old Victorian houses on the edge of the train lines..

I've read the book but not sure if I want to watch the film as I think it may ruin the story for me haha

That has put me off the film as well! Who hasn't been on a train and spent the journey looking in at the houses and gardens on the route?
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

Read the book and enjoyed it. Wasn't too impressed that the film was set in New York, would have preferred the film to have been set in the UK. Nevertheless, it was a good thriller, Emily Blunt did a fantastic job!

Oh dear, very disappointing after all the hype. What did she see from the train, OMG!

Very predictable, was not very suspenseful, knew the killer, a mile away.

Emily Blunt was mesmerising though. Always good to watch.

How funny - I'd seen the trailer and had simply presumed this was set in England and from British Rail train. I was rather surprised indeed to discover a US setting. I held the book in my hand in Tesco this afternoon but haven't read it. Maybe little point now. I did struggle a little with the similarity between Megan and Anna. Both had long yellow hair. It kept me guessing up until the end.

The book is set in Englandshire. They moved it to US fir the film to appeal to a wider audience?!
