Any self employed barbers on the forum?

#1 Post by rainey_y2k » Wed Jun 16, 2010 5:52 pm

Hey guys n girls! really random and not related to films at all but just wondered if there were any barbers on the forum? I'm about to start a barbering course at college in september and seeing as this is the only forum i have time to post on i thought it would be a good idea to strike up a friendship or two to give me a bit of support!

cheers everyone!

probably not the kind of advice you were hoping for but you'll need to make sure you register with HMRC and National Insurance as self-employed within 3 months of starting up or you could face a fine....... http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kbroker/hmrc ... tegory2010

if you start trading in this financial year 2010/2011 you won't need to complete a tax return until after the year ends on 05/04/2011. You then have up until 31.01.2012 to p*y any tax liability owed. You can submit tax returns either by paper (must be by 31.10.2011) or online (must be by 31.01.2012 but you'll need to be registered with the government gateway to file online so make sure you leave plenty of time for that as registration can take a few weeks) The earlier you submit your tax return after 05.04.2011 the easier it will be for you as HMRC will calculate your tax liability and send you a statement of what you must p*y if you send your information in before 30.10.2011. If you send your tax return in after that date then you will need to calculate your own tax liability. more info can be found here... http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa/payments-refunds.htm

You can always ask your local office for advice, I'm not sure if the Durham enquiry centre is still open, but you need to phone to make an appointment first anyway so here's the number you'll need to ring and you can ask there if you need to go to Sunderland or Durham. Good luck x
