What week are you looking at going? The schools have a half-term in October so if your looking to go then that might bump the price up a bit.

Avoid week commencing 25th October as it is the half-term for most of the UK. Unfortunately, you will probably find that with most of the cheaper flights you will have a stop-off.

Do compare JFK with Newark. Whilst JFK is the nicer of the two airports, they are roughly the same taxi cost into Manhatten and Newark does tend to be the cheaper flight choice. Going into Philly is an option as it is only a two hour ish journey but I always think that is two hours you could be spending in the shops of New York. However, if you wanted to take the opportunity to shop in Philly than it is definitely worth considering as they do have a lower sales tax.

As others have said Sky Scanner is probably the best search engine to use but do not be fooled as some will add additional charges that can put the price on par with the largest airlines.

Do you know where you are staying in NYC? Do you have an idea of where you want to go? It can be pretty full on if you want to try to do loads so carefully planning is essential.

Oh I wish I was going back but it looks likely that we are hitting Arizona in October instead.
