Safety And Crime Alerts...preventions

#1 Post by TheyCallMeMrGlass » Thu Aug 26, 2010 11:10 am

Thought I setup this thread for general safety tips and prevention of being victim of crimes

I received the below circulation email this morning which is warning drivers of a new crimewave method. Sometimes these sort of email circulations are fabricated but wether this one is true or not, its defintely logically possible to be extremely aware of it happening to you.

Hi all ~ for those of you who drive just had this off a mate not sure if its true and dont wanna scare you but just in case please read

Sad, especially if you are inclined to 'help' people...

While driving on a rural end of the roadway on Thursday morning, I saw an infant carseat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it. For whatever reason, I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head. But when I got to my destination, I called the Police and they were going to check it out. But, this is what the Police advised even before they went out there to check....
>
> "There are several things to be aware of ... Gangs and thieves are now plotting different ways to get a person (mostly women)to stop their vehicle and get out of the car.
>
> "There is a gang initiation reported by the local Police Department where gangs are placing a carseat by the road...with a fake baby in
> it...waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the abandoned baby.

"Note that the location of this carseat is usually beside a wooded or grassy (field) area and the person -- woman -- will be dragged into the woods, beaten and raped, and usually left for dead. If it's a man, they're usually beaten and robbed and maybe left for dead, too.

DO NOT STOP FOR ANY REASON!!!

DIAL 9-9-9
> AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW, BUT DON'T EVEN SLOW DOWN.
>
> "IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSHIELD, DO NOT STOP TO CHECK THE CAR, DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPER AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE EGGS MIXED
> WITH WATER BECOME MILKY AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5%, AND YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF THESE CRIMINALS.

THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY GANGS, SO PLEASE INFO RM YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.

> THESE ARE DESPERATE TIMES AND THESE ARE UNSAVORY INDIVIDUALS WHO WILL TAKE DESPERATE MEASURES TO GET WHAT THEY WANT."

Please talk to your loved ones about this. This is a new tactic used. Please be safe.

Get started NOW -- SEND THIS MESSAGE TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES TO BE CAREFUL AND AWARE OF EVERYTHING AROUND THEM SO AS NOT TO BECOME A VICTIM

Men and their tiny down belows. The extremes they go to just to satisfy it because nobody else wants too. Take a hint and find other methods.

I always check eRumours on www.truthorfiction.com

Unfortunately, this email is fiction: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/t/tn-gang-week.htm
But it is always good to be wary of anything unusual, and never stop, but just alert police.

Summary of the eRumor:
This is a warning from the Tennessee Department of Corrections that says it is National Gang Week and gangs are attempting to stop motorists using an abandoned baby in a car seat along the road.

The Truth:
This is a hoax according to the Department of Corrections in Tennessee who issued an official statement on their website. The statement said that no such warning was issued from anyone in the agency and it "cannot be supported by current Department of Correction intelligence." Click for statement.
updated 12/14/09

A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet:
National Gang Week is starting: This is their New target Method
While driving on any roads, If you see a baby car seat sitting on the side of the road DO NOT STOP!!!! These are gangs targeting people, especially women, to stop their vehicle to help a baby. They make this baby look as if it has blood on itself or on its clothes, when you get out of your vehicle in attempt to help, the gangs jump out from cornfields or tall bushes. They have beaten women to near death, and then continue to rape them with baseball bats and other torture methods.

This is not just a forward of information, it is within our area. If you do happen to see a car seat DO NOT STOP CALL THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY!!

Please send this onto everyone you know.

Coming home late one night on a quiet road I drove past a man laying in the gutter with his legs in the road. I did not stop but called the police as soon as i got in.

The operator stated the man may have needed emergency care and as a responsible citizen i should have stopped. I told her i was not a responsible citizen as I was 19 and didn't expect to become a responsible citizen until i reached at least 30!

Now a responsible adult i would have told her to sod off :p

Heck, truth or not I would have turned my wipers on and used the water spray without knowing that it would all go cloudy and reduce my vision by 92%!!!! Handy knowing not to do that :giggle:

Mind you, the bad guys would get me because when I drive in London I get easily annoyed by incompetent drivers, boy racers, women who SHOULD NOT drive at all, people who make u-turns where you SHOULDN'T and general road twits and tossers. I'm the lass who swears a lot in the car when I'm not singing along rather loudly to nickelback.

I'm also evil, a cynic and I've seen way too many movies where the idiot driver stops to pick up a hitchhiker/person lying in the middle of the road/animal that has been hit/nun and ends up being raped/murdered/decapitated/mutilated/eaten/fed to the crocs/bitten by vampires/munched on by zombies/hunted down for fun/used as rifle target practice/human guinea pig for horrific experiments/anal probed by aliens/etc.
