Mobile phone cold callers are the easiest to get rid of. "My battery's dying. bzzzzzzzzzzz". ;)

or a very deliberately slow stephen hawkings style voice machine reply works wonders for putting them off. not easy to pull off, though.

To get rid of the vast amount of cold callers you can register with the Telephone Preference Service

There's also the Mail Preference Service which does the same thing for junk mail

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/

Both are free services

I was going to say "I've done that already a while ago" then I came across that for the MPS: "Please note that your MPS registration will last for 5 years, after which you will need to re-register."
My TSP was still valid though.
