Re: Charlie St. Cloud
Interestingly, this is the Edinburgh screening tonight:_
Sky Movies are taking 35mm, their weekly magazine movie show presented by Mark Dolan, out of the studio and on a UK mini-tour, arriving in Edinburgh on Monday 13 September.
Dolan and the 35mm crew will discover Edinburgh’s cinematic history before hosting a preview screening of Charlie St. Cloud at the Wester Hailes Odeon.
Based on an acclaimed novel, The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud is a romantic drama starring Zac Efron as a young man who survives an accident that lets him see the world in a unique way. In this emotionally charged story, he begins a romantic journey in which he embraces the dark realities of the past while discovering the transformative power of love.

Am going tonight. Does this mean we need to be there earlier than the 6.30 start time do you think? Or will there be something before the film? Ticket says 6 for 6.30 start.

Re: Charlie St. Cloud
It's first come first served with seats, so you need to be there at 6:15 at the latest usually to get a decent seat which isn't arms length from the screen.
Preferred cinemas:
Weekdays: Central London (all West End), West India Quay, Greenwich O2, Vue Islington
Weekends: Greenwich (O2, Odeon, PH), Vue Stratford City, Stratford PH

Re: Charlie St. Cloud
Thanks. What I meant was with this being a special screening with Mark Dolan and 35mm whether we needed to be there earlier than the usual for a 6.30pm kick off. I hadn't realised the significance of the 35mm appendage to the film title.hdaniel82 wrote:It's first come first served with seats, so you need to be there at 6:15 at the latest usually to get a decent seat which isn't arms length from the screen.

Re: Charlie St. Cloud
An excellent all-round film I thought. Exactly what I expected from the trailer I'd seen at Step Up 3D. Nice to see Mark Dolan too although I'm not entirely sure what he was there for. I had expected to see something of the filming they had apparantly done today around Edinburgh. I have never seen 35mm before. Where have I seen him before?
A nice surprise to get free popcorn and bottles of water too.

Re: Charlie St. Cloud
Biggins and Marjorymajora got it spot on; it was pouring with rain in Edinburgh last night, I got out of work late and there is nowhere to park near the Odeon on Lothian Road before 6.30 so I having managed to get Charlie Tix yesterday afternoon on Sky, I gave my Made in Dagenham tix to one of the girls in the office who went with her pal ("it was OK") and headed off in the car for west Edinburgh and Wester Hailes Odeon where there's a free car park at the front door.
The film was part of Sky's 35mm tour of UK & Irelnad (they're in Dublin next week), so it was compered by the comedian who hosts the TV programme (7.30 Fridays on Sky 1 folks!!); he was fairly entertaining for his 5 minute slot. We got free water and popcorn so that was a plus since I'd been stuck in the office since 8.30 and had had nothing to eat all day!
the cinema was about 75% full which is not bad for a horrible evening and it's a real pain to get there if you don't have a car and worse getting back in the dark!
The film, well, having seen the trailer it looked quite good and it was.
It is a bit of a weepy and the title the Death & Life of...does give away a bit of what's to come!
Zac Effron did prove he can act but for the young girlies there were probably enough shots of him with his shirt off or bulging biceps to keep them happy too. The boy who played his wee brother Sam was excellent. The girl was a bit "plastic" or "wooden" in her acting.
The scenery was beautiful and the story was well told if all a tad unbelievable. I can't say more or I'd give away the story!
7.5/10 from me and word of advice - take a hanky!!

Re: Charlie St. Cloud
Just attended the première of this in Leicester Square with prettyxcool and my OH, many thanks to cheekyweelassie for the tickets! I really enjoyed the movie, it was sad in parts, but well acted. It was nice to see Zac Efron in a more mature role, outside of High School Musical. Not that I didn't enjoy HSM
