The End of The Line

#1 Post by Beate » Sat Jun 20, 2009 12:11 am

Saw this today at a londonpaper screening at the MPC in Wardour Street. They had given out 25 pairs of tickets, so given that the screening can hold about 53 people, it should have been full, but there were only about 30-35 people there. They had laid on some drinks and nibbles again which was a nice touch. We got an introduction by the producer who gave us a half hour Q&A afterwards as well.

The film is really quite interesting in showing how overfishing the quota is reducing the amount of fish and other sea animals so badly that there won't be much left in a few years if we don't curb our consumption of endangered species like bluefin tuna.

7/10 because it was a little bit preachy.

We got talking to the couple next to us who were very chuffed to have won tickets - their first free screening ever it seemed so when I started talking about SFF and FMUK, their eyes got bigger and bigger. I gave them a few links and will send them the new FMUK link tomorrow - they gave me their email. :D

Well done Beate, sounds like you had a good time!

I got this magazine dropped off on my desk from Waitrose about fish and it was labelling all the fishes that they sell, where they are from and all the ones that are endangered. I think skate was one of them, cod from the north sea. And there were loads more.

Actually this prompted lazy me to do a search and here's the link for anyone interested:
http://www.waitrose.com/food/productran ... aspx#faq07

All these fishes have declining stock: North Sea cod, common skate, marlin, wild Atlantic salmon, blue fin and big eye tuna, sturgeon products, shark, ling, dogfish and Chilean sea bass.

Something new I've learnt today! :D
