Kings Place This weekend...
Date: Saturday 23 October
Time: 19:30
Venue: Hall One
XENON is a new work which challenges the boundaries of opera and performance art. It presents a vocal tour de force featuring classical singing beatboxing, pop and experimental song, recitation and sound poetry by leading UK performers. The work responds to the context of urban alienation, continuing oppressive political regimes, and a climate of economic calamity which generate an increasing mobility of populations. Moving away from home, people become strangers in their own country or abroad searching for financial stability or safety.
XENON orchestrates a series of unexpected encounters between strangers who discover hidden personal obsessions. Office works, soldiers, a reciter of the Declaration of Human Rights, a coal miner's choir, three sopranos and Death's Ferryman stumble into each other evoking questions of belonging, independence, territory, generosity and impossibility.

We have a few tickets available for Robert Lindsay in Onassis tonight, Friday and Saturday
The twentieth century was full of larger than life supermen and superwomen, from the monsters like Hitler to the saints like Mother Teresa. The Greek super-rich have occupied a particular place in this pantheon, and in his time Aristotle Onassis was the richest and most prominent of all, at least in the eyes of the general public. Just as the Russian proverb says that Moscow is “a city without limits’, so the Onassis life seemed to be ‘without limits, in terms of money, sex, power and infinite freedom. Onassis seemed to be able to go where he liked, make money beyond the dreams of avarice, sleep with the most beautiful women and influence world events. These threads all converged in his passion for Jacqueline Kennedy.
The life of a millionaire ship-owner also seemed to be peculiarly symbolic, in that he grew up in the chaos of the eastern Mediterranean after the First World War and the 1923 Smyrna Disaster when most Greeks had to leave what is now modern Turkey. It is a horrible overused word, but his path was truly iconic, applied to a man coming from a culture where the family icons were often all that could be carried with you out of the old Asia Minor home after the wreckage of war. His ruthless ambition and overwhelming egotism can be traced to those days, when all he owned as a young man arriving to make his fortune in Buenos Aires were the clothes he stood up in.
He was obsessed with the ancient Homeric stories of heroes and gods, and for many years read little else. The ancient gods had similar lives in his opinion to the mid-twentieth century super-rich, acting beyond practical limits. In their own way, the Kennedy clan in the United States was similar, with a near royal status above society. Both had elements who seemed to think that the moral law was irrelevant to them, from Onassis’ ruthless early deals with ex-World War Two ‘Liberty Ships’ in New York that laid the foundations of his major fortune, to Joseph Kennedy’s indifference to the fate of the United Kingdom facing Nazi Germany.

Krapp's Last Tape – a few tickets for TONIGHT and Friday, 8.15pm performance
Following his outstanding performances in Endgame and Eh Joe, Michael Gambon returns to the West End Stage in Beckett's classic one-man show, Krapp's Last Tape.
Gambon received huge acclaim following his performance in the role of Krapp at the Gate Theatre Dublin earlier this year.
Every year on his birthday self-absorbed Krapp sits down to record his memories from the past year. But on his 69th birthday he takes a step further into the past. Listening to his old recordings he soon stumbles upon a single tender memory from long ago that sparks his growing regret as he starts to question whether his present lives up to his past.

Larkrise to Candleford - Edinburgh 21st - 23rd October
Bill Kenwright presents
The Acclaimed National Theatre Adaptation of
The Heartwarming Portrayal of 19th Century Life
By Keith Dewhurst
Adapted from Flora Thompson's memoirs
Following the success of the award-winning BBC television series, Bill Kenwright presents a fresh new revival of Keith Dewhurst's original stage adaptation of the much loved Lark Rise to Candleford. Based on the first book of Flora Thompson's trilogy of semi-autobiographical novels, this play was first performed at London's National Theatre in 1978 and was nominated for two Olivier awards.
Seen through the eyes of young Laura Timms, the play follows a day in the life and relationships of the farm workers, craftsmen and gentry of the fictional hamlet of Lark Rise at the end of the nineteenth century. It is the first day of harvest, and the villagers celebrate with the simple pleasures of music, song and dance, creating a moving and evocative picture of a forgotten England.
We have a few tickets for 21st, 22nd and 23rd
To download tickets: https://www.showfilmfirst.com/pin/508959
Dont forget you will need ID (driving license or credit card with same name as on your Seefilmfirst Voucher). Vouchers should re redeemed at the box office between 6.45pm and 7.15pm on day of performance.

We have a few tickets to Cadogan Hall on Monday and Wednesday next week for Vanbrugh String Quartet:
Beethoven’s string quartet output spans his entire creative career. Not only are the quartets masterpieces in their own right, but they also clearly outline the course of his career.
Based in Cork, the Vanbrugh String Quartet is one of Europe’s most successful ensembles, internationally recognised for its beauty of sound, clarity of texture and integrity of interpretation.
The set of six string quartets, Op.18, saw Beethoven exploring new compositional territory. Though grounded in the classical tradition of Haydn and Mozart, these quartets demonstrate new attitudes and techniques, while being more traditional than his later quartets.

The set of six string quartets, Op.18, saw Beethoven exploring new compositional territory. Though grounded in the classical tradition of Haydn and Mozart, these quartets demonstrate new attitudes and techniques, while being more traditional than his later quartets.

Krapp's Last Tape – a few tickets for TONIGHT 8.15pm performance

2 Pianos 4 Hands is the touching and irresistibly funny story of Ted and Richard, two young prodigies, who share one goal: concert pianist stardom. Over a period that covers 15 years and dozens of characters, we witness their journey from childhood to adulthood, through a world populated by nervous pupils, pushy parents, eccentric teachers, stage fright, dreams of greatness and constant practice. This award-wining show has played in over 150 productions to 2 million people worldwide since its premiere in Canada in 1996.
This new production is a joyful blend of theatre, comedy and virtuoso piano playing, by the musical comedy duo Katzenjammer (Kevin Farrell and Steven Worbey). Katzenjammer are set to thrill audiences with their skill and musical dexterity as they take to the stage to perform over thirty characters as fifteen years of piano playing unfold. From classical to jazz to pop, the duo treats audiences to a dazzling virtuoso performance that encompasses the music of Bach, Beethoven and Jerry Lee Lewis.
As they mature Ted and Richard have the hardest lesson of all to learn - that the gap between being very good and great may be slight, but it is all important - and over time comes the humbling realisation that greatness may just be out of reach. This is a show with a big heart that will be enjoyed by anyone who has ever dreamed of doing one thing and ended up doing something else.
"Enormously enjoyable" The Times
"Anyone who has ever taken a piano lesson, or, more significantly, ever simply encountered some kind of career or life disappointment and moved on, will identify with this story, laugh and have a great time. The show delights on both levels - you might empathize with both or merely one. It doesn't matter. It should hit you on the funny bone of self-identification." New York Times
"While many of the pieces are played seriously, the show is anything but; take-offs, pastiches and routines in the style of Liberace and Borge abound, as do hilarious one-liners. This is primarily a piece of theatre, but it also offers a razor-sharp insight into the world of training and competition." Variety
"funny, clever, insightful and touching, full of music, humour, story and character" Toronto Globe and Mail
