Help - Photoshop

#1 Post by destresserai » Sat Aug 08, 2009 5:47 pm

I need to get Photoshop for my daughter.

Can any of you computer buffs tell me which version to get and where to get at a competitive price?

As you can tell I haven't got a clue - I can just about turn my digital camera on unlike my daughter who wants to be a fashion photographer and already takes the most amazing photos!

Jeez, I really wouldn't recommend Photoshop for private use. Not at the price they charge.
I recommend Paint.net. It has most of the features and it's free. It's also better in some areas - my brother works in graphic design and uses photoshop, so I could install it if I wanted, but I stick with the slick, lightweight freeware I know and love...

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason in particular you wanted photoshop?

I'm sure Aybg's right but i found this free trial but ask someone else here if its ok to use

Its for 30 days so she would know if it is what you want. I've got a early verson some where that came free with a digital camera (camera's not used now), i'll have a good look and let you know.

None - it's the only one I have heard of but I will take your advice and let her have a go!

Thanks for the advice and for saving me a shed load of cash!!

I'll let you know how she gets on with it.

I'm with AYBG on this one Photoshop is EXCELLENT but unless you plan to use all of it's multitude of features its very expensive.

As a alternative to free software which is always a good idea to start with I would also consider Corel Paintshop which I've used alongside Photoshop for a few years (which the last time I checked was under £100) which is far more reasonable and essentially it has most of the features of Photoshop.

Happy Shopping

I would recommend what AYBG said - it's spot on.

The last time I used Photoshop was the CS3 version (for very basic things but it was okay to use). But CS4 is out now, which I haven't used and probably just has a few more extra features. Didn't seem so different when I saw it but I don't know... I would recommend CS3 for anyone who does have the money to b*y it but it is very expensive.

My friend uses Paintshop Pro. She loves it and feels it's better than Photoshop. (She creates alot of websites and is awesome with graphics and even created her own Photoshop software for her final year uni project!)

For prices, I'm not sure where you can get it cheap. There is a student version available of photoshop which is much cheaper than the full version and has quite alot of features but I guess it will depend on what features you daughter is actually looking for. If she's at university, they might sell it there too.

Look at the difference here:
