Original Taking of Pelham 123 on TV

#81 Post by yogi » Fri Aug 14, 2009 8:29 pm

Just to let people know original Taking of Pelham 123 on 5 tomorrow.

Far superior to the shouty remake, and has one the all time best endings.

Now I have seen the original and the new version and I can say that the original isn't better - it is just different and plays in a different time. More sexist comments, less violence and a different ending. I must say I thought John Travolta and Denzel Washington were terrific in their roles and brought a new dimension to the old story. The psychological interaction was better, and Washington wasn't quite the squeaky clean officer they made him out to be in the original. The side story with the video chat over the laptop was however annoying in the new version but all in all I preferred it for being more exciting. So shoot me.

I preferred the remake rather than the original too, i know the original was of it's time, but it didn't have anywhere near as much suspense. then again I liked the ramake of assualt on precinct 13 much more than the original one too. hmmmmmm so what's better ????? original or remake ????? there's only one way to find out.......
FIGHT!!!!!!!!

I watched this yesterday afternoon, while doing more ironing - will it ever end? - and thought it was great. My son watched it with me, and we were nattering away about the similarities and differences between the original and the re-make. We both prefer the re-make - far more tension in it, and far more exciting. There was more character development in the original, particularly the minor characters. There was more humour in the original too. The re-make was darker altogether.
