Re: The Diary Room
that's strange, what's to stop everyone just b*ying stuff and taking it back? Was it faulty?Ms Thrifty wrote:Waitrose have an impressive refund policy of which I was unaware until today. I returned an item costing about £5 and asked for a refund. I noticed the card reader showing double the amount and pointed out to the cashier that it was far too much, only to be told that they double the amount to compensate the customer!
Tesco used to have a policy if you pa*d the wrong price for something you get the money refunded and the item for free. They only give you the difference now
Re: The Diary Room
Well I thought it was faulty, or not satisfactory. I suppose this policy could be abused but I doubt the Waitrose clientele is the type to try it. I seem to recall Tesco doing what you say; they also used to accept any coupons, regardless of whether you b*ght the item, but that welcome attitude has alas long gone. I think that facility did get abused as some people were barely p*ying anything, they had so many coupons.

Re: The Diary Room
Not even recycling, just trashing them. I think these Ricky Gervais style jokes might be making Hdaniel even more unhappy, sorry! If redundancy do come your way, do what I did. Panic. No just kidding. When I got redundant, it was a blessing in disguise. Change can be liberating as long as you put effort in, it could even be a change in career, you do have choices. Dont wait for something to happen. Prepare for it. Assume the worst, and be ready with a plan on what to do after. Start looking for other jobs now. Or even think of doing a course to further your skills and qualifications etc. Fingers crossed you dont get redundant but just in case, plan for it. Who knows, even if you dont get R, you might actually find a better job to go to anyway. I think everyone should have a plan and think about the possibilities of being made redundant. We all know these are very volatile times for all companies.Beate wrote:Seems they recycle people as well.

I agree MrGlass, I have now been made redundant twice in two years! Have a plan, a schedule, do a course (some boroughs provide courses free to the unemployed, and they give you a shopping voucher when you complete!), volunteer, anything to make your CV look even better, improves your employability.TheyCallMeMrGlass wrote:When I got redundant, it was a blessing in disguise. Also if you get jobseekers allowance after a certain time, you can apply for half price tube and bus travel, or get it refunded if going to interviews, even get money for a new suit for interviews. These things are not advertised or offered, you need to ask first. It seems it depends on the Job Centre as well.

Being redundant can be soul destroying but if you keep positive and confident, that comes across to the employers too. It is always good to see what is out there, even if you are not going to be made redundant, as Mr Glass says, you may find something even better.
It has definitely been a blessing in disguise in more ways than I thought, the first being I found this site and free films!

Tesco's give you double difference now, I was overcharged last week by £13.?? and was given back £26.?? - can't remember the exact amount but it was to do with their finest meal deal. Was very happy !valda wrote:that's strange, what's to stop everyone just b*ying stuff and taking it back? It seems it depends on the Job Centre as well.Don't be late for your appointment at the Job Centre, even a minute and you are put down as no show and you will have to re-apply for jobseekers' allowance and you lose that week's money too! It is that inflexible, whether you have a good excuse or not!

Re: The Diary Room
My dad was made redundant a year or two back and that was a blessing in disguise too. He'd become stuck in a nightly shift work system which cause him to develop imsomnia annd other health problems, once he was made reduntant he found that the majority of places hardly do night shifts anymore. And an ordinary day job with benefits and better p*y! Oh and his imsomnia is getting better
I feel a bit pooped down all of a sudden :S bf just cancelled on me tonight because his best friend who doesn't know I exist yet asked him to go round tonight so they can sort their wales trip in 2 weeks......meh.
I guess that means going to the meeting today and then being able to sell tshirts tonight, and earning money I suppose :/
