I am not saying they don't overbook, but I am sure there are people out there who just photoshop tickets if they can't get it or use the same tickets for more of their friends.

I've never seen a full screening at Covent Garden, maybe just Star Trek recently. Even tonight, as Beate said, it wasn't full; I just knew they couldn't be bothered to check looking at the chaos outside. Even the dreaded tiny Panton St is rarely full...

Nah, I am not going to complain to SFF, I am not in favour of tighter controls. I feel it's more people abusing the system rather than any fault of SFF...
I think SFF overbook by about 20% and with a film like this in dead central London then of course its gonna be full. Ive been to lots of films where people have been turned away, all in central london - the further out you get the less busy the cinemas are and the more popular film the more are turned away, ive never been to a sff screening with an empty seat at shaftsbury avenue for example, and a few at covent garden but only for the less popular films.
Ive been turned away once myself when i couldnt get there early enough and tonight the latest people were turned away for the hurt locker as usual, and I feel that this is fair enough when these are free and the companies want as many people as possible to see their film, I know in America their previews are just queues until its full which is fair enough and i wouldnt be surprised if it ends up going that way here with the number of half empty screenings outside london because of people not using or returning their tickets, whereas in london they are much more likely to pass them on.

Just back from the Trafford centre, screening was full, and got to say Tarantino back to his best, it had the same style and story mode as kill bill, but it did not disappoint. The makeup and the effects for the kills were amazing! 9/10

I went to see inglorious tonight at Southampton I only managed to get tickets through lucky_charm, they had 2 screens open and the one I was in was only 1/4 full ??? The people I went with enjoyed the film, I thought it was ok (slow in parts). 7/10

superhero wrote:Yeah I am really surprised as there were so many people outside the cinema. I don't think it's a case of SFF overbooking but more a case of people abusing the system. Maybe people had more friends who wanted to go and just photocopied the same ticket? I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe they will be forced to do photo ID checks!
That really annoys me that you didn't get a seat. There were still about another three to five seats available, there was one right next to my friend! Then there were a few more singular seats on the side and right at the front.

What annoys me more about knowing you been turned away was that I sat next to three very annoying guys. They kept popping in and out getting food or whatever, then munching so loudly, talking away like they were at home and speaking loud and clear, popping out again for long period, coming back and disturbing again and then texting away on their phones with their phone light right in my face. There were some girls telling them to shut up on more than one occasion but they didn't get the message. Arghhhh!

Then to top that up, they kept a spare seat in the middle. The usher asked if it was free and they said it wasn't. And you know why? As one popped out, he went for approx 20 minute, came back at 7.10pm and b*ght his friend in (who was obviously very late). So while you were turned away, a seat was kept for someone else who was very late (yet you were on time) and according to SFF rules should not have been allowed in. I don't mind people hogging seats for their friends but at least ARRIVE on TIME.

There was also a couple behind me who just chatted really loudly the whole way through the film. :wall:

As a result of that, I hardly got to enjoy the film. The accents were really strong and because they were talking I didn't get all of it. :( With what I did get, I did really enjoy it (suprisingly for a 2.5 hr movie!) and thought it was quite funny! Abit gruesome for my liking too but I loved the Bear Jew so much!!! He looked alot like Sylar to me from Heroes! :noo:

I'd rate it 7.5/10 - would recommend to others to watch!

I am sorry to hear what has happen to you. but the screen is fairly full. The staff come in to count how many seat available and go back to let ppl in.

I found that screening are becoming more occupy comparied to several months ago. Very likely they increase overbooking ratio. It is so common to see many code for the same screening (same date, same location). Also, ppl would understand the system more as staff dont check the printout at all. they can print 5 copies without being turnt away!

I didn't take any and I didn't believe for one minute that you meant to offend. I just wanted to make people aware of the correct terminology. As part of my job, we promote "inclusion for all" and one of the current barriers faced by disabled people is "old" phases which very much form part of the "Medical Model of Disability" and not the "Social Model of Disability". I won't get on any soapbox and hope I have not offend you in anyway either.

It was fairly full but there were a few empty seats. And your right they did ask people if seats were free but they seemed to ignore some of the singular seats for some reason (and also some people said people were sitting there when they weren't). If people moved up, or didn't hog onto them then I'm sure superhero and guest would have been let in. They may not have been able to sit next to someone they came with but I'm sure superhero wouldn't have minded.

Well if they were counting empty seats then they didn't do a very good job as both a_person and I can testify to seats being left empty! Were where you sitting, a_person?
