soonforgotten wrote:"Fortunately" this was screening on a different floor from The Adjustment Bureau so there was no way for me to "accidentally" get "confused" and see a better film instead. And god, was this ever dire. I probably would have enjoyed this more had I taken a shot every time someone said "Hall pass". At least, that is, until I died from alcohol poisoning, was resuscitated and then further drank myself into a coma. This is one of those flicks that tries so hard to be funny that you begin to feel bad for it. It's like a deseperate teen who can't get a date; the harder he tries, the more awkward he is and the worse the results. Somewhere beneath all the utter crap is a decent story trying to be told, but it would have a better chance through some other writers' (anyone elses!) pens. You get all the gross-out moments one would expect from a Farrelly brothers movie but they just make this turd stink even worse. The one moment of brilliance occurs after the credits start rolling and involve the underutilised Stephen Merchant and his hall pass fantasy. It's just a shame I had to sit through 95 minutes of total rubbish to get to it. 3/10
Well put, I agree with what you have said but I'm not too sure I would be quite as harsh though. I did wish that I had sneeked into another screening instead but I couldn't do that as it seems very naughty.

I was also at WIQ an agree completely with Soonforgotten - this was a dire film. I'll happily watch most things but this was clunky and tried much too hard. 2/10 from me.

I really enjoyed this film actually. If you dont like crude humour you wont like this. However, i am in love with Stephen Merchant so i was going to love it anyway. His scene at the end was funny!

However, the glasgow showing showed half an hour of adverts... then the start of Black Swan. lol.

OH reports back from WIQ that it was "good but not the best film I have ever seen". Sorry for him being so vague.

I don't know if this is just a "chap's film", a lot of girls around me were laughing hysterically throughout... Very crude and slapstick stuff indeed, but also buried somewhere in there is a decent idea for a film about the difficulties of long-term relationships. I wonder if Adam Sandler was busy, so they gave it to Owen Wilson? I kind of knew this wouldn't be higher than a 5 or 6, and I wasn't wrong.

After 2 days of packing, e very hectic day at work, being extremely tired - I found it very funny. Maybe at that point I would have laughed at paint drying, but I did enjoy the movie quite a bit! 6.5/10 from me (a point taken out for way too much nudity and grossness)

I think it does absolutely depend what sort of mood you're in and as I said, I was ready for something pretty lowest-common-denominator. Didn't recognise ANY of the cast apart from Owen Wilson and on checking, found most of them were indeed unfamiliar to me - I'd either never seen them in anything or only a small part or long ago. Had to check to see who that weird, gangly English bloke was and although I had read that Richard Jenkins was in this, I was staggered to find he had played Coakley - what a transformation!

I agree. I'm going tonight after a full day staff meeting after which I have normally lost the will to live!

Have to agree with him Beate. There really wasn't a lot to get excited about in my opinion. The film did get better towards the end, but I do feel that it could have been better if it was about 15 minutes less. I feel that they were definitely trying for another 'Hangover' movie. Hangover did make me laugh and it had some clever and very well executed jokes. This had far less. With Hall Pass I expected very little and it managed to deliver with a few laughs in between.

6/10
