The use of "my bad" drives me nuts. It's bad enough when Americans say it but sounds even more ridiculous when used by other Nationalities. It is nonsensical. Grrrrrr

Ha ha. I was just having a rant about this very thing on another thread! Lol.

Great minds think alike!

I heard it a few times on American things like Scrubs and always thought that I had just misheard as it makes no sense. I think that is why it is so annoying. If it was just an abbreviation like "I soz" or something then I could accept it.

Grrrrrrrrrr! Lol.

'Shall' and 'will' get to me, along with 'to' and 'with' as in 'I will speak to you next week or I shall speak with you next week'. I am guilty on both counts of using the incorrect words as it seems to flow when having a conversation, however, when people use 'of' instead of 'have' that really annoys me, also the use of ', gets to me when abbreviating; I've for example, not sure where to put the ' here!

Ridiculous, how can they enter LOL or other internet abbreviations in the Oxford dictionary. People dont actually shout LOL when they laugh. Keep internet slangs and abbreviations separate. Although it would be funny to see a spoken conversation using internet terms in a comedy sketch.

I don't know, I've been known to say LOL, usually in a sarcastic way, and it's been often enough that someone b*ght me a t-shirt. I've also been known to use words that are slang from cartoon or sci-fi shows and books, I am just that sad and geeky. I was using 'shiny' with the same meaning as it's used in Firefly since I was quite a lot younger, possibly even the first boarding school, so believe that was in common use within my family well in advance of the show.

There are some in jokes / internet slang from IRC rooms to do with a specific social group (UCIP), including some slang that I started, that I've certainly used offline. It's a definite head slap moment but it's also easy to see how you could use these words offline if you use them so often online that they become part of your internal lexicon.
