Not Receiving Email Alerts

You click on the "Mark topics read" bit on the top right of any index page just below the "Go to page" bit or just above the deep blue title bar, far right (unless you changed away from the default format).
It will do as it says to any topics listed and all sub-topics, so if you are on the Board index it will mark all messages read in all topics. The only exception is PM's, which are not listed there anyway.
If you are in Free Films it will only mark those messages read.
If you are reading messages, you will NOT find it as it isn't displayed in any message thread, only index pages!

NB. I know of no way to reverse this!

Thanks a lot for the explanation Steve . I didn't realise that I had to look on the index pages for this - I couldn't understand why I couldn't see it!

I've had no alerts for several days (not that there have been that many new posts on Free Films, but some) and I'm definitely still subscribed and have visited the site on and off a lot during that time, so it's not a case of not getting more alerts because I haven't been back since the previous one. "Is is just me, or...?"

As above, are you reading the threads each time or just visiting the site?

No, I am reading them, honestly! For one thing it wouldn't work otherwise, would it, and for another, "Free Films" is usually the first thing I check, because it's quicker than looking at my e-mail to see if there's an alert, then logging onto the site. I've tried unsubscribing and re-subscribing to see if that will help.

I last received an email alert for a free films post made yesterday afternoon. I logged in but the message had been moved to a local board for some strange reason. Since then I haven't received any more free film alerts although two more posts have been made - one yesterday evening and one this morning. No alerts in spam. It seems to me that the problem lays with the post being moved, even though I read it, I didn't get the subsequent alerts.

Sorry if these are already mentioned, but keep getting distracted when I try to read through the posts.

Have you added the alert sender info to a safe list (which of course, if you haven't got, you will need to know..... and it is aybg@fmuk.org.uk)

Or, maybe your ISP is treating this as junk mail?

Next option, open a new email account e.g. with hotmail or googlemail (as long as it is different from your current one), which work (at least for some of us). You can always forward to another email address.

I moved a post to a local board the other day, yes, so theoretically you might need to read it still. If you're not receiving email alerts, catch up on all threads you want to, then click "Mark forums read" from the board index.

No, because Vista gets very excited if it thinks anything is junk and flags it up as soon as you open your inbox. Also, why would it suddenly treat the alerts as junk after accepting them all this time? But when I logged on this morning, I'd received the latest one OK. Mystery!

so far so good, by making sure I actually mark the free films section as read each time I log in I DO seem to be getting new alerts each time.

still getting randomly logged out now and again and can't access page 2 of smilies, but hey 1 outta 3 aint bad.
