Doctor Who

#1 Post by weirdfilms33 » Wed Apr 13, 2011 9:01 pm

I've watched Doctor Who since the first season with Christopher Eccleston and it's been one of my favourite TV programmes. It's captivated me with its wonderful characters and monsters alike as well as its always cheery sense of humour and intriguing storylines. Was a little surprised to see that no one had started a Doctor Who thread on here, so I'm hoping that people will share in my excitement at the new series rather than Beate shrugging me off and moving my post somewhere else.

After consuming various news articles on the topic, I've found out that this series is set to be a very different one to its predecessors. Apparently the start to the season is a lot darker, and the episodes are going to be split in two; half will air in Easter starting on the 23rd April, half in autumn starting in September. There's definitely a lot to look forward to, from the looks of this revealing interview with Steven Moffat: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/ ... All_Aboard

Anyone else desperately anticipating the 23rd april?

I love Doctor Who, have done since I was a kid and remember the original doctor William Hartnell (showing my age now), I only gave up with the original ones when Sylvester McCoy took over, I couldnt take to him at all.

When Christopher Eccleston took over I started watching again and have been hooked ever since. Each new doctor seems to add a new dimension and every time I think the new one will never take the place of the previous one they somehow do. I really like the new doctor, which surprised me as I loved David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston before him, and can't wait until its on at Easter. Some of the monsters could be better but I dont care I love everything about it. I usually sky+ and watch each episode a couple of times as sometimes you miss things on the first airing.

Thanks weirdfilms for starting the thread and for the link.

ermmm weirdie....that's not really the first season of Dr Who you know :P

I hated Sylvester McCoy's Doctor, the companion should never be a better character than The Doctor and Ace was far superior to the Doctor all the way through, plus he was just irritating.

I've enjoyed the Sarah Jane Adventures too, as well as the animated series they've done.

Anyone listened to the Audio Dramas like the Big Finish productions or the DWAD? I only ask as I'm one of the voice actors in The Call of Pudsey a charity episode... /shameless plug

Goodness a person after my own heart! I remember William Hartnell and hiding from the Cybermen, when it was all in black and white. Also gave up after with the later Doctors, but started back again with Chris Eccleston.

I'm loving it now, although I did like Tennant, I thought towards the end he was just too manic. Remember waiting for the announcement of the new Doctor? When Matt came up, I wasn't even p*ying attention, then it was Who? (no pun intended) But, from the very first minute of him I was captivated. The new dynamics with the Doctor, Amy and husband is great, and as for River Pheonix, she keeps him firmly under the thumb.

For the most part, the monsters and stories are not silly but quite scary, even for an oldie like me. Weeping Angels anyone?

I cannot wait for the new shows, or for Torchwood for that matter, TW has finally found its way vx

1. tennant, the alien doctor
2. baker, definitive older doctor (tom, not the clown one)
3. edit - hartnell, i mean, the one who looks like your legendary wonderful uncle /grandad (we had a patient who was the spitting image of him in our hospital ward).
4. ecclestone, the 'avid polytechnic lecturer' doctor
5. mcgann, hobbit doctor.

worst - colin baker. disastrous clown effect. shut up already, you buffoon. and sylvester mcoy. why?? shoot himmmmmm.

the new ones good, but hes too young to be him, so hopefully he will grow into the role as he starts to lose the baby looks.

I listen to the audiobooks when they are on Radio7 or whatever its called now. Sometimes just read by Tom Baker or sometimes Pau Msgann and Sheridan Smith.

The thing I miss most is the Podcasts they used to have every week with Russell T Davies and Tennant and the Producer, doing the commentaries. Sadly Moffat doesn't do them now

RAdio 7 also were doing Torchwood complete with The Barrowman

I love Dr Who too. My OH surprised me and got tickets to the pilot testing of the Dr Who Experience, before it was opened to the public. It was great and would recommend all fans, or not, to go.

I remember going to the Dr Who experience back when it was at the MOMI - before that disintegrated and bits of it made their way into something within the BFI...
