The medium is something I've been wanting to get into for a while; your job is to tell me which ones are the best and which ones you think would be good to read first. Here goes:

Sin City: Volume 1 (Frank Miller)
Watchmen (Alan Moore)
Batman: Long Halloween (Jeph Loeb)
Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life: Vol. 1 (Brian Lee O'Malley)
Batman: Dark Knight Returns (Frank Miller)
V For Vendetta (Alan Moore)
From Hell (Alan Moore)
Batman: Year One (Frank Miller)
300 (Frank Miller)
Sandman: Preludes and Nocturnes (Neil Gaiman)
Preacher: Gone to Texas (Garth Ennis)

A lazy list, but I'm sure you can help me out!
Its a good list. I think Hell is black and white only, if you are a fan of colour it may not be for you. Mind you, so is Sin City on the whole, but the monochrome is used fantastically.

this is going back a bit, but if you want to read a freakishly good batman novel then Arkham Asylum has to be top of that list. The Sandman ones are a bit overrated in my opinion. Kick Ass was the last thing I read that really stuck with me.

Purely on an artistic level, the Dark Tower graphic novels and the Slaine the Horned God/Book of Invasions have the most wonderful painting I've seen in a book.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Good list, it's a long time since I read sandman & preacher, so I'm not sure which volumes you've listed here. I would recommend you start with volume one in both these series.

Who else here actually enjoys the bad comic book hero films? I for one think Halle Berry's Catwoman actually has a decent storyline in the main villain played by Sharon Stone! It makes it watchable I feel, but am I the only one who has a shameful secret regarding liking a dodgy and crap adaptation?

Batman and Robin - Best Arnie lines ever
Elektra - Typhoid Mary is awesome
Daredevil - Kingpin is pretty kick ass (the only thing I will watch in it)

Any other suggestions?

"Ice to see you", "I can be Adam and you can be Eve-il" Or along those lines anyway :p

I'll be honest I would rather watch Batman and Robin then Batman Begins..

I like the Dark Knight, but they wasted Harvey :(

I will be intrigued to see which Bane is going to be better? Nolan's Tom Hardy or Joel Schumacher's minion version :)

Holy crap movies, I havent seen so many people in one place liking Batman and Robin...COUNT ME IN BROTHERS!

Both Joel Schoemaker Batman films were send ups of sends ups of Batman. Did that make sense? Remember the 60s Adam Ward Batman series, they were outrageous send ups of Batman, so I look at Joel Schoemaker films as send up of those! There were some references to them, such as "Holy rusted metal, Batman" in Batman Forever. And the way the villains gather together plotting the demise of Batman, just like the Adam Ward series. I liked them...though I am glad they never made more of those type, I do want my proper Batman films :)

I recently watched All Star Superman, the latest WB DC animated movie. Its superb. Its not released here yet, I got it on US import. I dont think there are any WB comic book animated adaptation I havent enjoyed yet. They have been very faithful to the spirit of the comics, far more so than the real life action films. Same goes for animated movies from the Marvel Studios.

I kinda enjoyed Batman and Robin but admit I much prefer the Dark Knight saga, I guess that's no surprise given that I preferred the Dark Knight saga in the comics too.

weird: You've taken a list of good comics there but you're right it is a bit lazy in that they're either movies or talked about for movies...If you're going for comics and are into Neil Gaiman, much as I liked Sandman, may I also suggest the first story arc of Books of Magic, the 4 piece that is Stardust, and some of The Dreaming and of course Death :)

something a little more alternative, try looking at Dark Horse and and Image / Top Cow - The Darkness is one I collect as well as Witchblade. Fable is suitably quirky it made me collect them when they first came out, I've stopped now as the local store went down but may have to try and fill my series with the back issues eventually. Sojourn is an interesting fantasy comic series from CrossGen who went bankrupt but they released 4 TPB for Sojourn and I believe another 2 were released by a different publisher so you can probably find the whole series in TPB unlike Meridian which is missing the last 3 TPBs

There were a load of comics I kinda enjoyed that stalled, anyone else have some of those? Nyx was one of them for me...

BTW, did anyone visit the Kapow Comic-Con on the 9th and 10th? For a first time event, I was pretty impressed by how many people turned up and that quite a few were actually dressed up too! :)

I managed to procure copies of Batman: Dark Knight Returns and Volume 1 of Sin City at my school library. I'm very impressed. Although they're the first of the kind I've read, I think they are comic book masterpieces: the former for its wonderful storytelling and depiction of an aging, troubled superhero, the latter for its provocative B/W art. Please inform me if I'm talking a load of rubbish, I'm very new to this, but I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Talking of which, The Dark Knight Returns is now going to be made into a full length animated feature by those awesome DC/WB animated studio folks. As I have mentioned in previous posts the DC and Marvel animated full length features are for me, superior and far more faithful to the comics then live action films. They are also doing Batman Year One which is actually going to be the next feature film. Dark Knight Returns will follow after. But as with all screen adaptions, they can never translate a comic fully for obvious narrative flow reasons but they still do a damn good job conveying the main story and spirit of the comic novels.
