Waiting for your review!

This is out on Blu Ray already in US since a week ago. A colleague of mine is in NY on holiday, Was tempted to ask him to get me a copy but I think I'll rather see it on the big screen first on its general release.

Yay! I've beaten AYBG to it. Must admit I was slightly disappointed that this was all in foreign and there was words and writing and stuff all over the screen. I had misread this thread and presumed that this WAS a remake of a Noweigan film. Having said that it was great. Same genre as Blair Witch Project, of course, but an original take on that theme, and doesn't leave it all to the imagination.
Fantastic scenery, believeable actors (assuming they were not real! lol) and interesting if curious monsters.
Quite a few jokes though - loved the Three Billy Goats Gruff on the bridge - just a bit of silliness to lighten the mood. Actually the dead bears looked less real than the actual trolls.

Saw this in an almost empty Edinburgh Cameo tonight. I'm guessing the students had got wind of it being subtitled and gave it a bodyswerve. A real shame they missed a really good film.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. 8/10 from me.

Definitely worth seeing on big screen - for the spectacle, scenery and total sound (unless you have a real kick-ass home cinema sound system!) Loud!

Well I am quite proud of my home cinema sound system ;) But I do want to see this on the big screen as you suggest!

Last year, there was a preview screening of another Norwegian film called Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale and that was a fun little horror fable too.

Thanks! I have been wracking my brains trying to think of which film that was. I knew it had something to do with Santa Claus. A very similar film indeed. Same style. Same scenery. Same language. Obviously.

MrG, I would definitely recommend seeing this on the big screen for the trolls! You can look at their hideousness in high definition! :p

Curses!

Pretty dedicated to its mock-context, so narratively it's loose; possibly not so engaging for some, but I had a blast. Norway - when it gets off its arse and makes a movie (approximately half a dozen times a year) - likes to put Norway on the screen, and alongside shots of its fascinating countryside we get its folklore turned fact. The film could've been called Troll Science, the way it so casually throws in little quirky things that we all see all the time but don't question, and ties them to its reality - yet rarely in your face, often subtly. It even has a parodic feel - it's been 12 years since The Blair Witch Project, so it's refreshing to see a mockumentary that makes a joke out of playing it straight, right from the opening cards. But its crowning achievement is how well it brings its humour and horror, and sometimes (daringly) both at the same time. In the end, you just enjoy it.
