Troll Hunter
I've done a search, but surprisingly there doesn't seem to be a thread for this.
Here's the imdb link for anyone who hasn't heard of this or is unfamiliar with it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1740707/
I caught this on Saturday at Empire Big Screen along with a Q&A by the director and one of the leads. It's an interesting view, but doesn't meet the critical hype it's been getting in my view. Still, it's probably worth catching before Hollywood gets a hold of it (which is happening director André Øvredal revealed). 7.5/10 from me
My full review can be read on my blog: http://t.co/B2SHCGC

Re: Troll Hunter
Didn't meet my expectations really, the troll hunter geezer was good but I couldn't care less if the students got eaten or crushed by the trolls. As usual, the camera shake technique is just pointless and annoying! I did enjoy glimpses of the beautiful Norwegian scenery and the chucklesome names for different types of trolls (Tosserlad, Rimetosser, The Harding...) Don't like remakes, but in this case it might be a good thing.. 6/10.

Re: Troll Hunter
My brief thoughts from the Empire Big Screen thread:
6/10.
The film achieves the right balance of seriousness and humour but I left disappointed considering all the buzz the film was attracting. It also felt a bit too long, perhaps some of the middle section should have been trimmed.funthing29 wrote:Troll Hunter was packed and I enjoyed this but was not as good as I thought it would be after all the hype surrounding it. The trolls were impressive and there were a few moments of comedy, but the Blair Witch Project hand held camera style started to annoy after a while.
6/10.

Re: Troll Hunter
For all the hype of a game-changer, a brilliantly funny thriller, something original, I was bored.
Standard found footage film fare, you know the drill, it's meant to be real, things ecalate to a crescendo, blah blah blah, and it's not helped by being populated by boring characters and spending 35 minutes figuring out what the poaching situation really is. If you want to add a big twist, don't leave it in the title.
Ultimately the troll creations looked great, sounded great and had a strong presence in the film, but beyond that the film had nothing.
4/10

Re: Troll Hunter
I saw it a few months ago, during a relative dry period. I was happy to sit in a cinema, but apparently I would have rather sat without any film playing.superhero wrote:Ethan it sounds like you've been watching far too many films and you have film fatigue!
Re: Troll Hunter
I'm quite looking forward to this, anyone else seen this in previews at all, was hoping to see it at Somerset House Summer Series. Whilst not entirely original in terms of filming technique (found footage), it at least appears to be an original idea. Bit disappointed to hear that the characters aren't fleshed out or are a bit boring though, character development normally tends to be a strength in foreign or lower budget films (Monsters, Let The Right One In etc)
