Re: The Last Station
I saw the trailer for it at the Invictus screening at the PH Greenwich, and it looked interesting. We also got The Lovely Bones trailer and A Single Man so I am hoping they might preview that one as well. I live across the river but only just and it's not far to the PH Greenwich and for a Sunday morning preview it's absolutely ideal as I could get there via the foot tunnel even if all trains and busses were on strike.

Re: The Last Station
Does anyone happen to know, please, if there had been tickets available for multiple locations that members actually wanted, whether F4M would have allowed me to book them? Or is it one of those "one booking only" systems?

Re: The Last Station
Just tried again as Beate said there wre more tickets on both codes but neither would produce any for Greenwich.

Ah, I am so sorry, I tried to book more but it wouldn't let me - they seem to only release batches of a few so it's worth checking regularly I think.

But were you at least able to get a pair for yourself this time?

Re: The Last Station
Yes, sorry, I've now seen your update on "Wanted". But I am puzzled, because yesterday I booked tickets at another location for someone else (who probably doesn't want them, in which case I will offer) and today I got an e-mail from F4M saying that owing to unforeseen circumstances, this screening had been cancelled. So I wonder if they are still allowing people to book in error?

Re: The Last Station
If that was for the East Finchley screening, that is no longer listed.

Re: The Last Station
My Mum doesn't go to the cinema much these days but she has just been to see The Last Station, which they call "Ein russischer Sommer" (A Russian Summer) in Germany. It always amazes me how somehow so many films get shown in Germany before they are shown in the UK, even though they have to do all the dubbing work first, but at least they don't get to see them for free! Anyway, my Mum loved the film. She said the acting was excellent, especially Helen Mirren, and reminded me (as she is a learned woman, and a retired history teacher to boot) that Helen Mirren's birth name is Elena Vasilievna Mironova, her father was still born in Russia and her grandfather moved in the same circles as Tolstoi. If I ever take part in Who Wants to be a Millionaire, she is definitely going to be my phone-a-friend. They just have to allow me to ask the question in German!

Re: The Last Station
Sometimes the films are shown first in Germany, especially round the times of the film festivals. Sometimes they come later, and sometimes there are films on there that I never see in the UK (Die Graefin/The Countess - no loss there... not Julie Delpy's finest hour). I saw Gone Baby Gone in Berlin a year earlier there, as they delayed the UK launch out of respect for Madeleine McCann and her family. But my German colleagues have commented on not getting Miss Potter - they all love Beatrix Potter (and the Lake District), Wondrous Oblivion, Amazing Grace, and they took ages to see Becoming Jane etc.
When I am in Berlin, I am always in the cinema (Sony Centre CineStar Original at Potsdamer Platz) . All in English, for anyone going there. 30 mins of ads before most performances though, but they allow you to take beer and wine into the screening, and still have ice-cream "ladies" between the ads and the film... Some screenings have an interval (you can choose to go to ones with an interval, or those which show it all at once. I would have left Da Vinci code if I had gone for the one with an interval, but enjoyed the break in Sex & the City!)
All staff speak English, etc. I have a season ticket there, not because I spend much time there, but based on the number of screenings, and they always point out when it is cheaper not to use my pass, and when I can p*y for a cheap seat and have my choice of a luxury one (like the Graefin..) Only downside is the teenagers who 'hang out' in the 5 p.m. screenings...
This week, they are showing Shutter Island... Why can I not see this here???? Don't know why the programme is in German. I think I need an urgent visit! http://www.cinestar.de/de/kino/berlin-c ... mprogramm/
