Call me new, but I watched The Godfather for the first time last wednesday. Stunning. Fantastic cinematography, great portrayal of 40s New York underworld, legendary acting.

I don't know why but over the last few months i've ended up watching about 10 nic cage films. last night i saw the weather man which i surprisingly enjoyed. It's definately not everybody's cup of tea as the humour is quite strange, it's not funny in an obvious way.

Ghost Rider was another one of nic cage's that ive seen recently. Have to be honest, i really did not rate this film at all and was very surprised to hear they're making a sequel, which knowing me, i'll still want to watch as it has nic cage in it.

Knowing was another, this started off really well but by the end it was just annoying me, it felt like two different stories were trying to be glued together. One minute it's about predicting all the worlds major disasters and the next it's about aliens. Weird!

8MM i had never seen before, this is quite a dark one about a snuff film. This is an old nic cage film where he plays a private investigator hired to find out if a snuff film is real or not, but it ends up destroying his character.

Next was another nic cage action film that i was enjoying right up until the end until it turns out half of the film was him looking into the future, so half of it never actually happened.

I think i need an I Heart nic cage t shirt. anyone know where i can get one?

Hi Elmqueen,

Not sure on the tee, but assume you've seen possibly the most magnificent Cage movie - The Rock? I enjoy the fact that his entire acting repertoire is based around either looking shocked or looking angry.

If not Le Rock I reckon Adaptation is probably my favourite Nicholas Cage movie...least favourite is possibly the dreadful Snake Eyes

Anyway sorry slightly off topic. I watched Quantum of Solace on Monday for the first time, didn't really do it for me like Casino Royale did. Not sure I could really believe that the master criminal's evil plan was to run a utility company??! not exactly Spectre...

Watched "The Women" last night. Had all teh marksof being a good film - chick flick plot, interesting angle of no male cast members, amazing female cast (Meg Ryan, Debra Messing, Eva Mendes, Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith, Candace Bergen, Bette Midler and Carrie Fisher) but... Oh. My. God. The acting was AWFUL. Really awful. It was so surprising because most of these girls are seasoned pros. A real shame. So much potential, so so dissapointing. 4/10. Unsurprisingly nearly all of these ladies were nominated in the 2009 Razzies Worst Actress category.

A quick look on IMDB reveals that this is a remake of a 1939 film starring Joan Crawford. Now to decide whether to give that one a go as a saving grace...?

I've been watching Jaws, like greenhill, a classic :D

But I’ve been watching on and off for the last week as my daughter is doing her English essay on the film and its questions about how the film angles or use of light and sound effect the viewers?

But I still can’t complain it’s a great film and one that has carried well over the years, believe it or not its 34 years old!

"Telstar" on DVD, as it didn't get much of a cinematic release. It might have seemed better on the big screen, but I'm glad I didn't go to that much trouble as I think the play was better. The film version went rather over-the-top about Joe Meek's mental illness, which, whilst it was crucial, was treated too melodramatically in the film for my taste. I suppose I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about this (my sister works in mental health), but mental illness is an everyday reality and will not lose its stigma unless seen as such.

Fast and furious, very very late on dvd last night. The opening stunt was quite outrageous, but the rest of the film doesn't quite follow that tone and there's abit more story to the film, which is nice (compared to the other 3 fast and furious films previously)

I have finished watching Mongol. I read Conn Iggulden's 'Bones of the Hills' during the summer, which is in fact the third in the series about the life of the great Genghis Khan. Trust me to read the third one first - as usual I'll have to find the other two and read the lot. The book was gripping and when I saw this film was on Sky, I decided to record it. Finding nearly two and a half hours to concetrate on the subtitles was difficult, but I'm glad I persevered. The scenery was stunning, and I thought that the film gave many insights into how tough life was during the reign of the Khans. Well worth watching, though not easy viewing.
