I politely asked her to turn the phone off. She huffed and carried on. So I huffed back and asked "what part of, 'please turn your phone off' did you not understand?" She glared and shoved her phone in my face to prove it was powering down. So I missed the info on the screen at the beginning! And this from a relative latecomer and I allowed her and her sister to sit by me. Next time, I lie and say the seat is taken!

One thing that puzzled me slightly . . .

I always thought that
the Clergy, were important men in society at that time but the attitude to the Vicar's son confused me a little.

John Divinier must have been at least a class or two lower than Dido, not being nobility.

How many times do I have to tell you. Grab the frigging phone and throw it. Job done. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeasy.

Also next time, get your muddy boots, wipe them on the seat, then say 'Please, feel free, sit down'.

That, and the legal case central to the plot, was embellished - John Diviner had nothing to do with the case, and was a Gentleman's Steward. While the so-called seminal slavery case was not the one featured, but an earlier case, which Lord Mansfield ruled upon relating to an American who wanted to take his 'Slave' out of England against his will.

This was amusing in parts but I felt that the romance and political side to it was dull and unmoving. Despite a strong lead performance and some funny moments with Penelope Wilton's governess, this just wasn't very memorable.

Thank you, I really enjoyed that. Jeez and I thought they had too many class distinctions in divergent, the English certainly liked putting people in little boxes during those times!

Thanks for putting the legal case into context, when I quickly read up on it, some of it didn't make sense in reference to the film.

I always expect Embellishment in films these days though.
