Re: Noah
The film is a bit of a mess, but it's a beautiful mess with a lot to say. I can forgive the occasional duff moment if a movie's got something important to say, which this does in spades. I love that there's people willing to put up tens of millions of dollars to create unique films like this.
Also, very refreshing to hear a mainstream movie come right out and say that eating meat is immoral.

Re: Noah
Can't say that I enjoyed this very much, everyone in the film seemed to go about with their mouths hanging open as if they couldn't believe what was happening. Good job that they had welding helmets in Noah's time as someone could have got a sore eye.
What next Ben-Hur remade with Vin Diesel in it and in place of chariots we have pod racers.

Re: Noah
We should all give credit where it’s due. I mean Russell Crowe is certainly a very versatile an actor, with his very good English accent, he can play a an Englishman, and American, a Roman and now a mythical North African/Middle Eastern man… It would have been more accurate if Morgan Freeman played Noah!

Re: Noah
indeed he did. Seriously, since the mythical stories are set in the desserts of North Africa, an actor such as Morgan Freeman would be perfect. Russell Crowe playing Noah is like Rutger Hauer playing Nelson Mandela… such representations only helps to skewer reality.

Re: Noah
This is an interpretation of a piece of fiction. Does it really need to be 100% accurate down to location or time period?!
Aronofsky describes the story of Noah as a beautiful piece of poetry and this is his interpretation of that poetry. Also, not wholly in accurate, there is a ridiculous amount of source material in the Bible!

Re: Noah
Saw this earlier this evening & loved it, not really bothered by how faithful it is to the source material because as a fantasy flavoured dramatic thriller it worked very well indeed.
Visually it was at times really rather stunning & performance wise I thought everyone (apart from Emma Watson as her character came across as a little bit dull & lifeless) was top notch.
Well worth the three (& a bit) years wait so this gets a well deserved 9/10 from me

Re: Noah
I'm a fan. A great bit of fantasy based on fiction. The extent of Noah's tunnel vision in carrying out his task shocked me at times. In fact I gasped as did a woman sitting in front when it came to the scene in which
he went to kill the twin baby girls
Also I was stunned that he
left that poor girl trapped to the mercy of the stampede.
I have no problems with what they wore as in my mind, all their equipment was washed away in the flood and mankind had to start again.
It did bring home just how misogynistic The Bible stories are and made me realise it's no wonder there are cultures who even today, treat women as 4th class citizens and who
prefer male children over female.
I've always wondered just how did the males mentioned in the Bible go on to procreate when only their mother existed i.e. Eve and after the flood only relations.
I did feel sorry for poor old Methuselah.
Flipping heck, I hadn't realised Nick Nolte was in the film too.

Re: Noah
I saw this movie yesterday at my local cinema at the Lowry in Media Centre, Manchester
I really loved it. A crazyass fantasy epic. Forget about the Bible story. This film has its own fantasy story to tell that's no different to Lord of the Rings, the Narnia Chronicles and the Star Wars movies. Well actually it is different, its crazy, its flipping badass.
There is some awesome storytelling on a character level here, sure there are moments of downright pretentiousness but its all done with a heavy surrealism flair and a grand spectacle that just took me by surprise by the liberty taking audacity of it all. This film is so out there, it ROCKS and man, there is a prominent element, crucial to Noah's mad journey that absolutely threw me off guard from very early on and I just love that and I hope most of you enjoy that too. I dont watch trailers for movies before seeing them so I just now watched the trailers and I am so impressed in how they kept certain badass stuff a secret. Well done trailer guys, you've left the best bits out.
I am an agnostic, a lover of science and recently an amatuer astronomer. I love to think there is a divine but science, my consciousness and instincts of righteousness are my current gods because I know nothing else and quite frankly I'm not bothered to seek the truth as I have my own surroundings to care about in life, unless the divine drops me a visit and tells me, "thou drop what you doing mate, need you to sort out my computer, its running a bit slow, so intelligence levels are dropping everywhere in this world." To which I might respond "Wow sure, I'd be honored, sir but first, have you tried rebooting it?"
I love biblical movies and I love some of the stories in the bible itself but The Noah story (and quite a few other bible stories) have always bothered me in their morality. I mean the bible's Noah story depicts god as a mass murderer of men, women and children etc and I just cant find any sense in following such a god. The moral just makes absolutely no sense, perhaps something is missing in translation from the original scriptures. But here, Aronofsky's wild "absynth drinking" interpretation throws in those very arguments so we can damn well choose our own preferences ourselves regardless of how it ends. Films have happy, sad and tragic endings, dont they? Here we can choose and each of us may choose differently. The film manifests completely new perspectives on the story's absurdity for even more thought provocation and I simply LOVE that. This is what filmmaking is about and it damn well entertains. Its what I always want from any movie.
This is visually breathtaking and Clint Mansel's soundtrack is wonderfully biblical. The presence of Russell Crowe, Ray Winstone and Anthony Hopkins gives this epic so much gravitas, I felt a nostalgic throwback to my childhood Bank Holiday Mondays sitting in front of the TV watching the old 50s biblical classics like Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments. This film almost has that classic theatrical feel to it.
Anyway, may I suggest you guys see this on the biggest screen for its enjoyable spectacle and regardless of your faith, try to enjoy a thought provoking narrative and not think too much about authenticity to the bible story. Just a suggestion if you care to watch this in the first place. And always respect everyone's faith, be it religious or atheist.
The universe is as beautiful as it is brutal and I think Aronofsky reflects that in his own funky surrealistic way.
8.5/10
