Wow!

I was really looking forward to this and it exceeded my expectations by a factor of n!

Lots of very funny moments and sub themes with visual humour that could have come from a Charlie Chaplin film! 'Little' people taking on the extablishment using their unique / bizarre talents. My sort of film!

Too many memorable moments to list, but I particularly enjoyed: the means of deciding whether to operate, the dog sitting by the downpipe, getting the metal flowers ready for the vase, the automatic fireplace - all sheer genius to me! ... I was all set to ask them to run the film again or to see if I could borrow their copy overnight.

Many, many thanks to Allsinging for the ticket, even if the cinema knew nothing about the competition she won!! :wall:
I once went hiking with M. C. Escher. It was uphill all the way there and uphill all the way back.

Saw this in Didsbury this morning - cinema was about 80% full! I thoroughly enjoyed the film! I loved the character who loved speaking in proverbs he made me laugh in all of his scenes, and Calculator girl - she was funny! I loved the way there were different elements and groups of people who were all linked together.

Subtitles never bother me but I dont see how the subtitles in this film could put anyone off as they were very simple easy to follow.

The only thing I wished was different was that I wanted Brazil to get it on with Calculator girl rather then Contortionist lady! Ha!

8/10 - I really enjoyed it!

wonderful film. it made me so very happy and i am still smiling this evening. i love jeunet's work and this is yet another of his masterpieces. Delicatessen (1991) was my most fav film for years, even if it is only feb, has gone straight to the top for this year.

Yolande Moreau (aka seraphine from last year) was my fav character as the cook. i just really enjoyed her screen time.

bravo et encore.

Hey Valda, it's totally up to you but I'd be interested in how you score this film - you have a different perspective on the film compared to most other forum members but our scores are just our opinions, so they are not right or wrong o/. But don't worry if you still prefer not to.

I really want to see this, shame WIQ wasn't full, I tried for tickets but they were all gone. Anyway I had Freestyle instead  :D

I went to see this at the showroom in Sheffield. As it was a screening organized by the cinema itself we had a brief introduction by the marketing director for cinema where she thanked the projectionist and the rest of the staff for making it in despite the snow. She was really enthusiastic about the film, said they'd been looking forward to it for ages and that this was a 'talker' screening and that's all they wanted from us was to pass the word on about it.

I really enjoyed it, although it some places it was difficult keeping up with the plot when they are saying something complicated over the phone for example. I found the same in A Very Long Engagement, so many characters and so many backstories being given it's hard to keep track. But then something you can pick up on second viewings. It didn't quite have the charm of amelie for me, $but I wasn't expecting it either. I was glad who Bazel got together with as I thought the other was a bit too much of an amelie look-a-like if it had been her. It's a shame it's french with subtitles (and a couple of sexual scenes) as I'm sure it would be a film kids would love too for all the quirky inventions, slapstick and scams.

Saw this in didsbury today. Was a bit nervous as I can sometimes tune out if something is self conciously quirky or whimsical, but i was pleasantly suprised.

I was captivated throughout and would happily watch it again.

Seen a few half hearted reviews saying it doesn't live up to his earlier films. That may be so, but it's still well worth seeing as it's stuffed with ideas, fun, warmth and charm.

Saw this yesterday at Cineworld Haymarket. I loved it. It was so weird and quirky yet it had black humour in it. The characters were unusual and lovely.

Saw this in Edinburgh yesterday.

It was about 85% full as majority of empty seats down the front - shame the people who came in late (lots of them) didn't just sit there but shuffled around at screen height instead!

It was mad and mental and really enjoyable.

My only gripe is the mime stuff. It's truly French and I've found it creepy since childhood!
