Micmacs

#1 Post by PeteYork » Fri Dec 11, 2009 6:34 pm

Micmacs (à tire-larigot) from Jean-Pierre Jeunet is opening on the 8th January!!!

It's looks as bizarre as City of the Lost Children and / or Delicatessen. My sort of surreal story.

I once went hiking with M. C. Escher. It was uphill all the way there and uphill all the way back.

If its Jean-Pierre then its always going to be suerreal! He's like a little bit of Terry Gilliam, Del Toro, and Coen Bros but weirder than all of them. City of the Lost Children is my favourite, dark, moody, WEIRD and visually imaginative. Amelie is my next fav, quite the opposite visually, all bright colours but an equally weird and enjoyable fable with a superb soundtrack.

I quite look forward to this one but it looks even more wackier than his other movies.

Same here. City of the Lost Children is my favourite, then Amelie, then Delicatessen

I am so excited about this film.

This film looks interesting, I wonder if anyone went to see it when it was showing at the London Film Festival recently?

Dunno what to think - IMDB lists the film as opening on 8th January, but Cineworld shows it as starting on 19th February... I'm confused (as well as disappointed!) - there's no sign of it on the Vue or Picturehouse websites.

I know you haven't a Curzon near you, but it's listed in their current brochure, so if you checked their website, you might find the correct date?

MicMacs

Synopsis
An underground lair serves as the point of inspiration for this deeply whimsical fantasy comedy (with echoes of Jodorowsky's Rainbow Thief) from French cause célèbre Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amélie, The City of Lost Children). The locale is post-9/11 Europe. As arms dealers go head to head with one another in a series of violent skirmishes -- suggesting that an apocalyptic cataclysm may be lingering on the horizon -- the unfortunate Bazil (Dany Boon) still reels from the long-ago death of his father from a roadside bomb, an event that left him orphaned as a boy. Now employed in a low-p*ying job as a video-store clerk, and still trying to determine how he fits into the scheme of things, he gets hit by a stray bullet from a drive-by shooting and promptly lands in the hospital. Upon release, he finds himself broke and unemployed. Hope soon crops up, however, in the form of Placard (Jean-Pierre Marielle), an ex-convict living in a scrap dump with a motley group of social outcasts -- all of whom welcome Bazil with warmth, compassion, and hospitality. Sure of his place for the first time in his life, Bazil joins forces with them to turn the dump into a lovely underground home, filled to the rafters with extraordinary inventions and sculptures. Soon after, the possibility of revenge against the munitions manufacturers responsible for Bazil's dad's death presents itself.

Trailer -

In all the haste to get tickets (which involved trying to remember my username & password for First4Movies), I realised I actually have no idea what this film is actually about.

However, having just watched the trailer, it actually looks interesting, and quite funny too! The only question I have is, does anyone know if it'll be dubbed in English or just have subtitles? I don't think I can handle reading on a Sunday morning!

Well I got tickets for the 21st February although I am not a 100% sure it is going to be my thing. And the release date on imdb now says 26 February - wonder why it was put back a week?

The Brits don't do dubbing normally - I have only today seen that there are two Ponyo versions out there, original and dubbed, which struck me as odd until I realised it's an animated film.
