"Pirates 4" hits choppy waters
http://www.mymovies.net/news/?timeline= ... ue&s=4&n=2
It is possible that the new "Pirates Of The Caribbean" film, "On Stranger Tides", could be under threat following the sudden departure of long–time Disney chairman Dick Cook.
Despite appearing in full Jack Sparrow regalia and accompanied by Cook at last week‘s Disney D23 Expo, star Johnny Depp cast doubt on the status of the sequel when he spoke to the LA Times claiming: "There‘s a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment… It was all born in that office."
The office in question belonged to Cook and it was there that the ex–chairman first persuaded Depp to don the breeches and frilled shirt and adopt the stumbling swagger of Captain Jack Sparrow for the Pirates films. Depp went on to add that it was in fact Cook who had protected and encouraged his rather controversial, ‘left field‘ rendition of the now beloved character from the criticism of other Disney bosses.
With the deal for Pirates 4 only provisionally in place there remains the question of whether Depp‘s commitment to the films lay completely with Cook and if his dedication to the upcoming sequel is wavering out of loyalty to his friend. What is abundantly clear is that a Depp–less movie could prove disastrous as it would be near impossible to generate international interest in the film without fan favourite Cap‘n Jack at the helm. While it‘s too early to comment with any certainty on the progression of the fourth film, it is safe to assume that whoever replaces Cook as the new head of Disney will do whatever it takes to keep Depp on board.

Clooney Vs Clooney
George Clooney is going to head to with head at the US box office with himself.
The actor's dark war comedy The Men Who Stare At Goats is being released in America on Novermber 6, while *dramedy Up In The Air is released a week later.
Both films are from different studios, and Clooney is sure to be angry that his films are rivalling each other.
Overture, which looks after The Men Who Stare At Goats, Vice President Kyle Davies, said, "We're confident in our movie and confident in the date."
Paramount, who look after Up In The Air, have so far not commented.
*dramedy - is this a new word?
A couple more George Clooney films to keep us entertained!

'The Men Who Stare At Goats' - Surely this has to be one of the most incredulous movie titles... I was hoping this is more of a working title and it would change... hmm....

Re: Movie Gossip and News
Chris Pine (Star Trek XI's Captain James T Kirk) is the latest actor linked to the Jack Ryan part.
The CIA analyst character is the protagonist in Tom Clancy's hugely successful novels and has been played by three actors before - Alec Baldwin in Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger and Ben Affleck in The Sum of all Fears.
Fears.
Aaron Eckhart, Ryan Gosling and George Clooney all have been linked to the part, but it looks likely that Paramount want Star Trek's Chris Pine.
Variety reports, "Pine is expected to come aboard the Jack Ryan film as the project takes shape. They are still in deep development and it is unclear whether Pine would make another Star Trek before the Jack Ryan film."
Interesting choice - I liked Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan, and although Alec Baldwin was good too, I wasn't very keen on Ben Affleck in the role. I wonder what young Chris Pine will bring to the part?

Re: Movie Gossip and News
Kind hearted celebs named - nice to know there are some philanthropists in the film world.
The Giving Back Fund has compiled a lost of celebrities who gave money to charitable organisations in 2008.
Late actor Paul Newman came top of the list after he gave a whopping £13 million to heath initiatives, education, emergency campaigns and environmental protection before his death in September of that year.
Next up was Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt - who donated £8 million to a health clinic in Ethiopia, New Orleans redevelopment and the Armed Services YMCA.
Mel Gibson donated just under £4 million to the Californian Holy Family Church, while Leonardo DiCaprio donated around £900,000 to community development and The Paris Review Literary magazine. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith donated around the same amount to several other organisations.
Other celebs featured on the list included Oprah Winfrey and Nicolas Cage.

Calling all Trekkies - another one on the way!
Abrams gives Star Trek sequel nemesis hint.
J.J. Abrams has given the strongest hint yet that Kahn will feature in the Star Trek sequel.
Abrams' big-screen reboot of the classic show was a huge success at the box office. With Abrams about to work on the follow-up he refused to confirm that Kahn, memorably played by Ricardo Montalban in the series, would be in the follow-up but concedes that re-casting the role would be a "challenge".
He said, "Now that we are in a parallel existence with what fans of the original series love so much, we could introduce any number of characters, settings, references and situations that the original series introduces.
"Dealing with Khan would certainly be a challenge, but we had an equal challenge in finding our crew of the Enterprise."
But who will play Kahn? I'm fairly sure that Ricardo Montalban is no longer with us....

Re: Movie Gossip and News
How sad is this article?
Slumdog stand-off over child stars' cash demands.
Danny Boyle has been left frustrated by the cash demands from the parents of the child stars of Slumdog Millionaire.
The Oscar winning director and Slumdog Millionaire producer, Christian Colson, pledged to set up a trust fund for the education of two of the film's child stars - Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail - and also allocated £31,000 for new houses after their makeshift homes were torn down by the Mumbai government.
However, Boyle is reported to be stunned by fresh demands from the children's parents.
They claim the funds aren't enough to sustain the lifestyle they have become accustomed to following the success of the film, and a spokesperson for the family asked the Hindustan Time: "Where is the swimming pools and the bungalow?"
Boyle flew to India recently to setlle the dispute but was left frustrated after their meeting.
A spokesman for the trust set up for the child actors, Noshir Dadrawala, said, "We believe that the children are being badly advised. There are properties available located in nearby suburbs.
"We have made many attempts to settle this but now Danny has said that if they don't agree by January, then the money will be given to other charities."
