NO TO ASHCLOUD
If anyone is flying soon...check latest news tv/radio/online but it might be better to check on NATS website: http://www.nats.co.uk/grimsvotn-updates/ which is the air traffic control for UK airspace. They are the ones who say yay or nay for airports to open/close. Also check with your travel insurance company whether you are covered for 'natural disaters' because not all airlines will be willing to compensate though I'm not sure if regulations have changed now since the last ash cloud. If you are affected by the ash cloud and the airline says your flight is not going and then you go and book yourself with another airline, don't automatically assume you will get a refund.
Note that your flight might be delayed (could be as ridiculous as delayed for dayssssss) and not cancelled unless they've stated so, if so, you should get it in writing from them.
