what are the guides for the '100 films in a year' club?
I apologise in advance if this is posted somewhere else, but as a newbie I was wondering what all these '100 films in ..' posts are about...
what are the guidelines, for example, are these ONLY for films seen through this site? or any free films? what about press shows you may be invited to or previews if you work at a cinema? what about previews at film fests?
and, call me cynical, but how do you know if it really 'counts' and folks aren't just saying they've seen stuff? (some of the lists include four or five previews a day which seems odd as most previews are at the same time)
again, i apologise if this comes up all the time, but I couldn't find the outline anywhere and I know that any newbie questions on a discussion board is usually greeted with a sigh and a sarcastic comment...

Any free films seen on the big screen (TV or internet doesn't count). Previews, press screenings, comp wins, free cinema vouchers...
Some people have lots of vouchers and go and see 3 films a day.
And I trust them.

but why would anybody lie? it's not like we would win anything at the end (apart from seeing +/- 100 free films)... I think it's more a way to keep the motivation up

It is only a bit of fun on this site, there is nothing to be gained by deceiving yourself. Quite a lot of us do post our reviews of the film afterwards as well. Have a look at this discussion on the diary room thread about the benefits:reeceindie wrote: and, call me cynical, but how do you know if it really 'counts' and folks aren't just saying they've seen stuff? its quite easy when you have time on your hands, though i dont know how people with jobs manage it, they must be total film fanatics.
also seeing 2 in a day makes good sense, since you cut down on travelling costs by going out only once to see them both, not twice, so its actually easier to do that. And quite feasible, i would add, when there are many sources of free films that aggregate often on the same days.

Re: what are the guides for the '100 films in a year' club?
that's great, thanks for your imput there folks ...
yes, raj101, I agree but I have a lot of time on my hands and have managed four films a day - but not allways freebies as i find press screenings are all around 10.30-11.30 in the morning and may clash and previews are often around the same time in the evening so may result in clashes again.. but I do wonder how people with jobs manage it, (esp projectionists, who most folks see all films but don't always get to see a whole one due to clashes and problems ....)
and as for the question as why anyone would lie? ... why does anyone lie on the internet? but they do. (sorry, for being cynical again)
thanks for the friendly welcome

Re: what are the guides for the '100 films in a year' club?
lol 4 films? that too much even for me, i only ever have done triple bills. For me i'd prefer two films, a free gig and a play, which on occasion I have managed.
my best free day yet? A museum visit, an IMAX viewing and free tickets to Guns and Roses in one lovely long day. Now that'll take some beating hehe, but am working on it this year.

Re: what are the guides for the '100 films in a year' club?
I've done 4 in a day thanks to the Priceless Cinema vouchers in combination with free preview screenings. I think I may have even done 5 in a 24 hour span. I don't know why people would bother to lie. I want to see as many free flicks as possible. Lying about it won't make up for not seeing films.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.
