Favourite Smells

#1 Post by andrews » Tue Nov 29, 2011 7:13 pm

I'm sitting here with a head cold, and can't smell a thing. I was thinking about that bleak film we saw recently - Perfect Sense, where people lost their senses. And that got me thinking - what's my favourite smell?

I love the smell of freshly baked bread, cakes baking and coffee made from coffee beans, though I don't drink it at all. I also love freesias.

Smells I can't abide are petrol, fried eggs and Singapore lilies.

I love the smell of coffee, fresh bread, lilies and cinnamon at the Christmas markets. Ooh I nearly forgot I love the smell of curries.

I must agree with Diane65 about curries but there are a couple more on the other end of the scale - fresh mountain air (oh the bliss on a recent trip to Switzerland) and,,,, freshly cut grass. Lovely clean and green. Mmmmmmmmmm.
Also, hoping I don't make people gag (sorry) but I love the smell of my OH. Is that weird?

Edit: Andrews! Hope you are better soon! Try warm milk with some turmeric mixed in (add honey if you don't like the taste).

I like the smell of fresh curries, but freshly cut grass or other plants just give me a headache.

Favourite smell...have to think about that one!

But I have no hesitation in saying my worse smell is that of raw fish (and while it is cooking), and you wont catch me anywhere near an open fishmonger, at least not conscious. Its weird because I love a cod amd chips, sushi, and salmon (especially smoked).

Another smell I hate is the hops of Rams brewery in Wandsworth ...ughhh, makes me sick, can smell it a mile off!

Ok, gonna have to go with Andrews on the likes...freshly brewed coffee and the smell of the bakerys :)

Ah! Worst smells. Butcher, fishmonger and that soap place Lush. Ugh. I literally hold my breath as I walk past them. Now THAT is headache inducing. I've also realised that the smell of pork or lamb cooking makes me feel ill. :s

As a teenager I had a Saturday job in a shop and had to catch the bus home from a stop opposite Benskin's brewery. The stench was absolutely stomach-churning. Even walking past a pub in the morning, when the extractor fans are sucking out the smell of stale beer, is still unpleasant. Which smells do I like? Well, hot food when I'm hungry!

Totally agree with fried eggs....... or anything fried to be honest, especially when the fat is dirty!! Fish is a deffo no no nooooooooooooo!!! Most smells that emit from the tube are not very pleasant either.

Smells I like, fresh bread/bakery yum yum, freshly cut grass altho it makes me sneeze, the smell of the air on a wet day.... like the earth and the ground smells. Certain perfumes and aftershaves, but nothing too heavy.

The strangest smells I like are creosote, but obvioulsy not to much.... a sudden whiff if someone is using it is quite sufficient and plastic, the kinda smells lilos and rubber balls are made from. Weird I know.....
