Carnage
Carnage
This is another film for which my search shows no thread, though I thought there was, or would be one. So apologies if it is there after all.
The UK release date is 3.2.12 but it's already out in some countries and I've just realised that this was the film for which OH and I saw a poster when we were away earlier this week. As the foreign title was so different, I couldn't work out which film was being advertised and of course OH was both clueless and not that bothered. I think I fell asleep during the play but that was because I was tired, not because it was boring, and the cast and director bode well.

Re: Carnage
I reviewed it in the London Film Festival 2011 thread which is where you might remember it from:
Carnage is excellent. Top-notch acting from Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly, and it's very funny. I loved it as God of Carnage with Ralph Fiennes and Tamsin Greig but this is even better. The actors are all fantastic in their roles, it's such a great study of 2 couples trying to be polite and civilised over what one of their kids has done to the other, and in the space of 80 minutes, it's all falling apart, while the kids have long since made up and are playing together again.
And in today's good news, the hamster is alive as well.
Interestingly, it's out in my German hometown's cinema already where it's called Der Gott des Gemetzels, and my Mum has seen it yesterday. She goes to the cinema maybe twice a year but she was very keen on this. I am now trying to get her to see The Help too!

Re: Carnage
I've not seen the film but I saw the play
The play opened in the West End in 2008 with Ralph Fiennes as Allain, Jannet McTeer as Veronique, Tamsin Greig as Annette and Ken Stott as Michel. An amazing cast and a fantastic evening I recall

Re: Carnage
Just noticed the running time appears to be only 79 mins (according to IMDB), which is quite short. I suppose a lot happens in that time, and I recall the play attracting people who didn't normally go to the theatre because they could still go on to dinner afterwards at their usual time!

Re: Carnage
Yes it's nice and short. It's totally speech-driven though, not much action apart from Kate Winslet throwing up spectacularly on a coffee table book.
Re: Carnage
Yes, I keep seeing that part in the trailer. How on earth do actors manage when they have to do that? And how awful if they had to do lots of re-takes!

Carnage
Saw the film in Paris in December. Very enjoyable, and I normally think Roman Polanski is overrated. This film represents his rehabilitation. It is a genuine 'end of civilization' (or civilized behaviour) movie, much better than that Melancholia nonsense last year. Who would have thought that house arrest would re-energise the pensioner? Spud out.
