Film reps - SKY, Virgin, Times etc and security

#1 Post by Yinster » Wed Feb 01, 2012 1:31 pm

I thought it be worthwhile for a discussion thread for people's experiences, good or bad, positive or negative with film reps and/or security. Those people that the film company hires, usually from an outside agency to represent the promoters.

I start with my experience at Springfield quay last night with the Virgin rep. I didn't recognise her from previous virgin previews but she was the most unfriendliest I encountered. After giving our tickets to the cinema usher I then headed to the screen which was further down the corridor. Once I reached the screen both the rep and security were standing outside the door. At this point one would expect the rep to greet or at least say something. Nothing for about an awkward moment. Finally she said in the most rude tone "What you seeing?" I replied "Man On A Ledge" which must be the secret password. So she granted me access.

Now you think as the rep and so representing Virgin she should at least greeted me in a welcoming manner. I could had said something first but I wasn't sure what to do. First time I approached a rep who didn't say anything. Worst part was she said quieter to security as I passed "Weirdo".

I was raging so luckily the film was actually enjoyable. However when the smallest cinema was getting filled she snatched all the bag of popcorns in the single seats and put them in a pile at the back so one guy didn't even get popcorn when he arrived later.

Preference of cinemas:- 1. Glasgow Renfield Street Cineworld, 2. Glasgow Showcase, 3. Braehead Odeon, 4. Vue Fort, 5 Glasgow Springfield Quay, 5. any other cinema in Glasgow area including Hamilton
Also Falkirk, Dunfermline and Stirling but these are rarely used for free previews.

The Times+ people are quite helpful and friendly. When i went to see J Edgar at Stratford the woman representative even gave us a leaflet that filled us in with the details of the film! it made quite a lovely souvenir. Yesterday, the same women returned with the original perkiness and a seemingly genuine positivity. There was even a special queue especially for the screening and i felt very, very welcomed.

The couple in Edinburgh last night were chatty and friendly. As I was on my own they said keep them seats and they'd come and keep me company!

the Sky girl in Edinburgh is usually pretty dull. I've tried to chat to her before and got monosylabic responses!

The Virgin woman last night at Coven Garden was the exact opposite to yours, Yinster, she was too friendly and in your face. Spent an age checking ID and wishing us a great time (did she call me "my lovely"?), explaining the way to the screen etc., then after the film she took pictures of the first people to emerge, then ran after us to ask whether we enjoyed it and to make sure to come back next month etc.
As soonforgotten said, scary.

We had a lovely guy at the Times+ screening at the Vue in Islington yesterday. Friend and I were first to arrive in the screen and he joked around a bit. Didn't ask for ID or membership card or anything, but was just being really nice.

Never had a problem with the Sky representatives at the O2 in Greenwich either.

There are usually two Sky reps at Cineworld O2, and they start upstairs at the balcony area. When that is seemingly full, they disappear downstairs. The last film there was 3D and they took all the glasses with them so some people who had seats kept for them did not get any glasses and had to go downstairs for them. Luckily I always have 2 pairs on me which I could pass on but it’s annoying that the reps disappear completely because often enough some latecomers come up the escalator to try to find seats when they are all gone, interrupting everyone. In some cinemas like Vue Islington it absolutely makes no sense to have them at all because your ticket gets taken by the usher in the lobby so by the time you reach the rep at the screen door, there is nothing to check anymore!

For the Times+ screening at Vue Islington yesterday my ticket was not taken by the usher in the lobby, just glanced at and then directed to the Times+ rep in front of the screen who took the ticket from me.

The lady rep at Portsmouth vue was very friendly yesterday; she said:'welcome to the times+ membership screening' at which point I started panicing in case she wanted me to show card, but she didn't. However she was also the sky rep from the week before, just wearing a different t shirt.
