Where the wild things are

#1 Post by a_person » Mon Aug 31, 2009 4:54 pm

The film follows the imaginary adventures of a young boy named Max (Max Records), who is angry when his mother, Connie (Catherine Keener), invites her boyfriend over. After causing one mischievous antic after another, he is sent to his room without supper. Feeling angry and unloved, he then creates a forest bordering a massive ocean, and sails away to an island inhabited by seven imaginary monsters called the Wild Things, who crown him as their ruler.

Where the Wild Things Are is an upcoming 2009 fantasy film by Spike Jonze. It is a live-action adaptation of the Maurice Sendak 1963 children's book of the same name.

The film combines live action, suitmation, animatronics, and CGI. Its release is currently scheduled for October 16, 2009.

This was one of my favourite books when I was a young child! It was just brilliant! Would be great for the kids. I would love to see this with my niece!

I have to admit to being pleased after seeing some of the trailers. This was (is) the most precious of all the books of my early years, so I'm a bit fearful of what Hollywood is going to do with it!

Just went and watched this tonight. It was fairly packed with adults and a few children for a 18:10 showing!

If I remember correctly from what I saw tonight - he bites his mother who tells him off and then he runs out of the house to have a hissy fit. And then finds the ocean. The book isn't like that either. The book is really sweet.
Very disappointed with the movie. This was one of my favourite childhood books and was upset to see such a crap adaptation of the book. It really is an ADAPTATION and barely touches on similarity with the book, mainly in sailing over the ocean to find wild things and being a king and back but the actual storyline... I don't know. I didn't like it. I felt I was just watching whiny children having the same hissy fits that my nephew is having during his terrible twos at present - something I really don't like. There were some funny parts, my friend found it hilarious and couldn't stop laughing. Probably a good film for young children who have emotional outbursts when they don't get their own way.

A disappointing 6/10 from me. I wasn't very impressed.

Ah that's probably why I didn't like it. They are talking about emotions. Don't hold them. :P

"The creatures are brilliantly designed, perfectly copying the characters in the book"

That part is true - they did look the book creatures from what I remembered.
It was gross when Max was swallowed though. Eughhh.
