Petition to stop ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya community

#1 Post by saleha78 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 8:18 am

Hi,

Hope you don't me posting on here.

Rohingyas, the ethnic minority in Burma, are treated as aliens and discriminated in their own country despite their continued existence there for centuries. They face systematic oppression of forced labor, arbitrary arrest, and land confiscation. Only Rohingyas must apply for travel passes even to go to the next village less than a mile away. So, they cannot go to mosques for prayer or to marry or even study or work. Only Rohingyas, but not Buddhist Arakanese, face exorbitant and outrageous taxation for land, property, and activities such as repairing houses, marrying someone, and giving birth. Thus, they are without human and civil rights. They live in fear and without freedom. This has been going on for over 20 years... in the last 2 weeks, it has it one of its worst stages. As you know, Burma is under a strict dictatorship with a crazy military junta, who are not not just burning villages (which they started 17 years ago), but also burning babies in front of their parents, taking men and women to concentration camps and raping them and then systematically killing them in front of each other as torture before death. Those who are fleeing are now stuck on rickety boats in the River Naf, and Bangladesh and Thailand have closed their borders and will not provide temporary refuge.. death is imminent.

Please can I ask you to sign the petition below, it will only take 10 seconds or so:

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and signing the petition!

Signed, thanks for educating us Saleha - It's really sad that injustices like this occur around the world and nobody knows what's actually going on. Keep up the good work

Thank you David for signing, much appreciated. Every signature counts.

Its terrible what goes on and the media aren't even covering and showing it here! But I think Channel4 showed a documentary on this a couple of weeks back.
